Lara needs greater strength and conditioning?

Lara fought a good fight last night. He showed really good movement and that's an improvement over his last fight with Vanes. He was never one of my favorite fighters but I call **** the way I see it and I was pleasantly surprised with his performance last night. I think he stands a good chance with any fighter at 154, bar none.

 

If Lara got stronger 'n had more stamina, would that make him box differently, RG?

 

Angulo is competitive and knocks down everybody. Why should Angulo all of sudden just get dominated? Do people think he's washed up because of the Kirkland fight?

 

Lara is top notch thing is he's always struggled with good pressure fighters like Molina and Angulo. Lara would of got ko'd by Angulo pre-detention. Matter of fact, he was about to get ko'd by this lesser version of Angulo. Great fight either way. Lara was throwing everything plus the kitchen sink at him. Props to both fighters especially Angulo whom I didn't think would last 5, but he's a gritty fighter.

 

I do think you're being a bit too hard on Angulo. He was outclassing Kirkland pretty easily and imo the ONLY reason Kirkland won that fight or was even able to be competitive is because Angulo expended EVERYTHING he had trying to get him out of there. Boxing 101 and Angulo failed the test, he had nothing left in the tank after his wild eternal flurry trying to get the spectacular finish.

Lara either gets smarter because of this, or maybe he shows permanent damage. He took a TON of damage.

 

Lara lost 3 rounds and didn't have a mark on his face. He was no where near being stopped. When knocked down he was hit right on the chin and recovered by the time the fight resumed.

 

Kirk, I won't quote everything for the sake of keeping the thread compact, but I agree with pretty much your entire stance here.

I don't view Lara as elite, but as a very good fighter who showed excellent toughness and will getting the victory last night. Angulo shouldn't have had nearly as much success against him as he did. I also thought it was a showcase fight that his team took for the sole purpose of raising his stock so he could be a viable option against the cash cows around the weight.

Although he got the win, I don't think he raised his stock the way he or his fans planned on. Nothing against him, this is just a case where getting the win wasn't enough if he was gunning for a big money fight.

Let's not pretend you saw a different fight than the one that actually happened.

 

Dammed if he box, dammed if he fights, Angulo was in the best shape of his life and didn't gas out, he was 10 pounds heavier than Lara and that made a big diference on top of that the ring was made for Maidana, a brawler not for Lara a boxer, he will kick the $h1t out Canelo and any other 154, and last night Angulo could had kick the $h1t out any 154 pounder not named Lara, Canelo would had being ko in the first knock down.

I'm not part of any group of posters here. I barely even come on here anymore until a fight night. Just because I, like all the judges, recognize that fights are scored on a round by round basis, doesn't mean I have some agenda.


Even with those two 10-8 rounds, and the fact that he had Lara out on his feet (and couldn't finish him) Lara still came back and won almost all of the other rounds.


You seem way to biased if you think everyone who disagrees with you didn't watch the fight. You really sound ridiculous!

 

those body shots were starting to pay off for angulo. lara was not able to move as much and angulo was starting to land a lot more of heavy blows. i wouldn't be surprised if lara had taken the knee in the 11th had the injury not happened.
