in 1996 Roy Jones beat HOF Mike McCallum who Slappy would never get in the ring with and was still p4p number 1. He just won 3 titles in 3 different divisions while Slappy wasn't even a champion. He fought a faded and ill prepared Chris Eubank in 1997, for the lightly regarded WBO belt, which is the equivalent of winning the IBO belt in todays standards. Roy Jones will always rank higher than Joe and is an ATG. I'm not even sure Slappy is HOF material. Slappy's best wins are a washed up Chris Eubank who took the fight in 2 weeks notice, fringe contender Jeff Lacy who a 40 year old Roy Jones beat shortly after, and Euro Bum Kessler who lost to a green Andre Ward with only 20 fights. RJJ best wins are ATG's undefeated James Toney, who was number 1 at Super Middleweight when he fought him, Prime Bernard Hopkins, and Virgil Hill. You tell me who has the better resume.
...from europe and neither were known in the US do you think pacquiao and floyd would have fought hatton if he didnt leave war+en and make a name for himself over here? no chance fighters who stay in europe and 'call out' the big boys, then claim they were 'ducked', dont understand the business of boxing
You mean you don't want to read post 19. It's ok, I understand why. The thing is, they're not my OPINIONS! What I've wrote is FACTUAL, and can be backed up at ANYTIME! :good
Ali's two wins agains Frazier don't count because Frazier was shot to ****, having been already sparked in 2 rounds by young upstart George Foreman. The mere fact that Frazier dragged Ali 14 rounds after this really means Ali can't be considered as a great, as two of his best wins were against a shot, smaller man. Forget the fact Frazier carried on for years afterwards (and did a lot less than Hopkins has since his loss to Calzaghe), its irrelevant. See its not hard to do mate.
We'll just skip the win against Hopkins, as Hopkins has continued to win afterwards shall we? Also it appears we have someone who's in a better position to judge Hopkins prime than Hopkins himself. Interesting. Who would you consider to be Hopkins best win prior to losing to RJJ that led you to this ridiculous opinion?
Faded and ill prepared Eubank?LOL have you even seen the fight? No you hav'nt.Two men going at it in a classic fight which was the hardest of Joe's career which he's acknowledged many times. That was his toughest fight.Fellow Brit Reid was also a tough fight. Joe you see had an easy time with the YANKS.All throughout his career. He destroyed a young hungry Omar Sheika in 5 rounds.Put bloody beatings on Lacy and Jones.Knocked out Byron Mitchell in 2 rounds.THATS THE LEGACY OF JOE BEAT.
What has seeing the Eubank fight got to do with what he's said? Eubank was preparing to fight someone else at a DIFFERENT weight, and he had 11 days notice to fight Joe. He was also at the end of his career, and retired just two fights later. None of that can be disputed. Joe didn't want any part of a peak Roy Jones, and for good reason. :good
I mean, if you call a guy preparing for a fight with 11 days notice, and retiring 2 fights after, then I honestly don't know what to tell you. The fact that Slappy's toughest fight was against him, and Robin Reid who I never even heard of.. then, well idk. It's a blatant fact that Jeff Lacy is more known in the entire country of Britain than he's known in his own city. Man, who the **** is Omar Sheika and Byron Mitchell though? **** man, you want me to put Slappys career in perspective? An example of Slappy's greatness today would be someone like Martin Murray winning an IBO belt and having 20 plus defenses in his home town against obscure competition, then facing someone like Vasquez who is Lacy equivalent or that Japanese guy at Super featherweight who is Kessler equivalent. Have him beat them to unify the title, then move up and fighting a guy like Erik Morales before the Garcia fights for the lightweight belt and beating him controversially, then fighting an ancient Marco Antonio Barrera next and retiring undefeated. That's pretty much Slappy's career.
When did Joe have the chance to fight a peak Roy Jones exactly?By 1997 Jones was an established light heavy. In 2003 he stepped up and won the heavy title. The weight drop killed him as he lost to Tarver and Johnson when coming back down to LT heavy. It was only after Calzaghe beat Lacy that Jones become intrigued with him and started mentioning Calzaghe as a possible opponent. So at what time did Joe avoid Jones?
Calzaghe beat about a dozen current, former or future world champions during his career.Who did he avoid? The only other prominent super middle around his time was Ottke who wanted no part of Calzaghe.Hopkins pulled out of a potential fight in 2003.You want to crap on his resume.Calzaghe never fought anyone decent and they were all bums because you say they ar?.LOL Calzaghe destroyed every American opponent he faced.
:think Hector Camacho fought about 25 champions, also has wins over ATG's Duran and Leonard. Would you rank him above Slappy? Besides Lacy who's more known in the entire country of Britain than he is in his own city, which of those American fighters were actually PRIME and champions? What does Slappy beating obscure cab driving Americans have to do with anything? I don't understand what your argument here is about.
Apparently your German?Yes or No? If yes thats interesting because you start trollish provocative threads about British fighters and when Brits post on these threads you refer to them as' Britards'.So not only are you a complete MORON but your also racist and i would use race in this instance to cover nationality as your insulting posters based on their nationality. Whats the problem.Jealous that Britain produce the better fighters, that Brits are tougher than the increasingly pussified German people. The state of German boxing is such that you steal other nations fighters like Huck, the Klits,Darius M none of them ethnic Germans and claim them as Germans:roflY Your nation have never produced a fighter half as good as THE WELSHMEN.
Ottke is arguably better than Slappy, with 21 defense of a LEGIT title in the IBF and also retired undefeated in the same division. Beat all the Brits who he faced. :rofl
jESUS,Lacy was the IBF champion and made a number of defences. He was also the favoured by the American media to beat Joe so they rated him highly. The fight was for the ring title your own nations media.Joe destroyed him in such a manner that he would never be the same fighter again.Of course your now gonna say Lacy was crap but the AMERICAN MEDIA,HBO,THE WRITERS WERE NOT SAYING THAT AT THE TIME.
