I think Nevin would have to make some major adjustments to go pro.
He is lacking that aggressive style to get to a cetain level in the pro game. I'm not sure he has power either. Can anyone tell me the last time Nevin stopped an opponent? I know he has unbelieveable skills but I just worry what happens when he faces someone who starts walking through his shots!

Good point. He could go super feather as a pro then (59kg). I don't think a fella has to have an aggressive come-forward style to be a good pro. I've no doubt JJN could adapt. He's definitely able to bang. Nearly knocked Sean McComb's head off in the senior semis 2012 (last round), and very nearly stopped Michael Nevin in the final.
JJN has great speed. Speed=Power. Look at Mayweather :D

Look at Zou Shimings amateur record. '03 + '05 + '07 worlds and '08 + '12 olympics he won every fight on points, bar the '03 world final (which he lost) and the '08 olympic final (when his opponent got injured). That's 24 fights in major tournaments that he didn't stop an opponent with aggression/power.

Of course, it remains to be seen how Zou will do as a pro, but it's funny how nobody seemed to doubt his decision to switch over like people do about Nevin

Cant see Nevin being as effective as a pro.

I dont think many Irish people are too concerned with Shiming.

Imagine if Nevin came up against Valdez in an 8 or a 10 rounder.

It's not about Irish people being concerned with Shiming. I'm using him as an example as to why we may be focusing too much on JJN's amateur style. I've no doubt that he could adapt.

I'm sure if Nevin was to come up against Valdez in an 8/10 rounder it would be very different. Nevin would be conditioned very differently first of all. They train now with the knowledge that they're competing over 3x3min rounds. Sure, he was gassed against Valdez in the third round in London, but again it's all about adapting.

His style would have to slightly change maybe (if he was to turn over), but he has all the tools necessary. He'd just need different training to allow his style to be effective over a greater number of rounds rounds.

He adapted greatly to the WSB, I don't see why he couldn't do the same in the pro game

Irish people would be concerned with Nevin's style in the pro's rather than Shiming's. But Shiming probably had his doubters in China. Just because he didn't have doubters here doesn't mean there people in China concerned at his prospects in the pro game.

I just dont think Nevin would be strong enough or powerful enough in the pro's.

Fair enough. I probably overcomplicated things in my post. Time will tell I suppose, If Nevin does turn over.

Ok McGuinty you obviously havent seen JJN in the gym or asked any1 who he boxed about his power, he hits unbelievabley hard when he plants his feet its just he always boxes on the backfoot in the amateurs ! Ask any that has ever boxed him or sparred him when JJN stands and puts weight into the punch he punches harder than Davey Oliver and all the 60kg boxers in Ireland they'll even admit that ! I know from first hand experience ! His speed is what gives him power i guarantee you if he switched to the pro's he'd be sparking people out !

I love when JJN boxes like that (last round against McCombe ) and against Nevin the finals , he has some power when he sits down on the shots , any1 at the recent international in Cork will tell ya that, he stalked his opponent for 3 rounds and loaded up , the fecker is talented he can box frontfoot and backfoot

So true, in the WSB he can back up good, agressive 60-64 kg fighters. Carl Frampton also went out of his way to say how hard JJN can hit. And as you said Michael Nevin knows too.

ive also boxed Carl and only yesterday i told my father he has the strpogest jab ive ever been hit with :) Carl knows JJN very well we were all on the one team and even as a junior JJ hit extremely hard so im sorry McGuinty its just 1 of them things ya have to experience mate ! Not all of us can be liars , im not joking when i say he hits harder than most of the 64kgs too :) Its a fact ask Billy or any of the lads on the team ! You just never got a chance to see his power because his best style is backfoot boxing with feints and counters and evasiveness:)
