For the same reason Muhammad Ali is rated ahead of half a hundred more deserving great fighters.

Both men have iron-clad resumes. The biggest difference is exposure. One guy owned what was the mecca of boxing at the time, NYC. Greb wasn't particularly liked by the NY boxing press (possibly because he didn't give them a little cash to "grease the wheels, so to speak.) There's also the issue of available footage.

I sincerely doubt that there were 50 fighters greater than Ali to an impartial jury.

    And what's the reason, aesthetics?

Because to some posters they think that there was no great fighters pre television.
They cannot fathom how a 160 pound fighter Harry Greb, could beat a tremendous amount of great fighters, and HoFamers who outweighed the frenetic Greb by 15 to 35 pounds almost every 2 weeks in a 300 bout career, and for the last 5 years or so with only ONE EYE...His record is too surreal for these posters to absorb. So they use the lame excuse " but I have not seen him on film"...But not taking into account all the great
bigger boys Greb licked as Gene Tunney, Tommy Gibbons, Jack Dillon, Tommy Loughran,
Kid Norfolk, Maxie Rosenbloom, Gunboat Smith , Bill Brennan, tough roly poly Willie Meehan ,all who weighed much more than Greb did...Most all on film...Virtually all of these fighters regarded Harry Greb as the greatest fighter they ever fought...Ray Robinson was by far the best WW ever, beautiful to watch as I have, but Harry Greb accomplished more against his MW division, and all the Lhs and heavies he licked...
There can never be anyone like him again as a P4P fighter if one truly studies his
amazing career...Truly the appellation "fearless", fits Greb like a glove...

Being a 5 time champion means close to nothing. It's almost an insult. You have to lose the belt before winning it back.

Greb was robbed against Flowers at least once. And before that was the best MW and LHW for about 9 years, all while beating every HW he ever stepped into the ring with.

    It's not even close.

He didn't beat Dempsey or Firpo, but the man was the shiznit. And head-to-head, I think Harry Greb loses to the Sugarman, despite his resume.

I just don't feel okay with saying the GOAT in boxing has no available footage, it doesn't sit well with me. It's like there being no footage of Pelé and trying to convince people that he is infact better than what we can see.
