Deontay Wilder says he's fighting a top Russian Heavyweight on July 13

    Deontay Wilder will be on Showtime on July 13.

    He says he'll be fighting a Russian heavyweight, someone "much, much better than Dereck Chisora" and people will be pleased with the choice of opponent. He cannot yet say who it is.

    It won't be Povetkin. The only two other good Russian heavyweights are Magomed Abdusalamov and Denis Boytsov, so it will likely be one of those two.

    Oleg Maskaev for an easy KO would be consistent with some of Deontay's past opposition, but surely he won't sink that low.

    Wilder may have his countries confused so he might actually be fighting someone from Ukraine (Glazkov) or a Belarus (Lyakhovich or Ustinov). It wouldn't surprise me if it's Lyakhovich, he's taken some bad beatings and is completely shot now.

    Would be nice to see him finally step up his opposition. While technically very sloppy he has superb athleticism and power and would be nice to see how far his natural ability can take him despite his flaws.

    Despite Lyakhovic not actually being Russian, he was who I was thinking of too but Maskaev isn't a bad shout either.

    Anyone with a pulse would be a step-up so I'd be amazed if he stepped up much beyond these guys.

    I hope it is not Magomed, I dont want these two face this soon. I like both of them even Wilder beat up that woman, damn fraud. But Wilder is good for boxing, he obvióusly is very likable person and exciting to watch. He will bring people back to watch hw in usa if he will make it to next level.

    Wilder need to fight guys but I hope it is not mago. Not yet.

    I see Denis Boytsov is no longer on the BoxRec schedule for this Saturday in Hessen, Germany.

    Of course it doesn't mean he's fighting Wilder, but it makes me wonder if he might be.

    Teddy Atlas calls the Klitschkos "Russian". :lol:
