He didn't have a small reach. More like average, or slightly above for his length

Maybe he meant Corrie Sanders? :huh That still doesn't make sense.

edit: no, he meant Corey...because his nickname was "T-Rex". :nut

Qawi was very short (little over 5-5) for his weight, but had along reach

Reach is from innermost nook of the armpit to end (outward facing knuckles) of the closed fist.

Wingspan is fingertip to fingertip (middle/bird to middle/bird), and includes the upper back.

So when you look at Boxrec and see:

    height 5′ 8″ / 173cm
    reach 72″ / 183cm

...that doesn't truly mean reach, it means wingspan. Obviously a single arm of Floyd Mayweather Jr. isn't ten centimeters longer than how tall he is. It would be dragging everywhere.

Usually (not always) the wingspan is roughly close to someone's height. Average in boxing, spanning all the weight divisions, ranges from the high 60's to low 80's in inches.

Conversely, the 'reach' meant in contexts such as the "Tale of the Tape" on HBO lands typically in the 20's or 30's. (Mayweather has an official arm length of 26", for instance...so mathematically you can deduce that his upper back is 20 inches wide. 72" wingspan minus 26"x2 [52] = 20. :good )

I would say Hatton was a successful boxer. Won all the major titles at his best weight, beat Tszyu, made more money that most championship boxers. While he did lose to the very best he fought, at least he had the desire to test himself at the highest possible level. 99% of boxers will never achieve what Hatton did.
