Does anyone have examples of fighters who went into fights after clearly not being warmed up properly and it costing them a fight. I often noticed how Steward would point out how fighter a or b was "dry". I suppose it was suppose to insinuate they were not properly warmed up. But I don't ever remember seeing a "dry" fighter loose. Any examples?

I suppose Mike Weavers 1st Round disaster against Mike Dokes might qualify, (along with Ref Joey Curtis haste to declare a stoppage)

    Michael Grant vs. Jameel McCline.

George Foreman in the HBO commentary was justifiably critical of Teddy Atlas for not having Michael Grant warm up.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean.

When a fighter fails to properly warm up pre-fight, as in stretches, movement and a little shadow boxing to ready the muscles and body for strenuous action, this is simply a failure of the boxer or camp.

    OTH

What happens frequently in boxing (and, I guess other combat sports) there can be a lapse in mental? preparedness. There is a very sharp break between the normal world, with it's peaceful habits, even sparring hard, and a real head to head with another person trying, as hard as they can, to debilitate you. This can take a short time, even (I understand) for a pro fighter to adapt to. When a fighter is not yet in their 'fighting mind' - seems to be when they're most likely to receive those KO/TKO 1s.

That's my understanding of the 'caught cold', 'not properly warmed up' etc judgements. More of a mental rather than physical state. The adrenaline's not properly kicked in, still ad******g mentally to what is ultimately a very extreme situation. This is perhaps the riskiest moment of a fight and often determines the outcome.

edit; Ad******g !!! they better not !!! Ad - fukin - just - ting. How the fkin fuk can ad-jus-fukin-sting be auto censored.

I'm formin a fukin union with MMJ - the fukin **bullshiters**

Oh, for all those with delicate ears, the terrifying word I typed was A-D-J-U-S-T-I-N-G. Now, I'm both a old evil ******* and quite inventive with language, but even I can't find a particularly unpleasant use for it. Ah... the Name in the middle letters! Well Fuk. I don't even know anyone called fukin J'stin, but I'll warn him if ever do that his very fukin name is a sin...

Kirkland against Ishida, Bundrage against Powell I, and Campillo against Kovalev all looked extremely dry at the start of their bouts, though I'm not sure being properly warmed up would have made a difference in any of these cases.
