I think Gavin maybe a bit too clever for him and bit sharp and out point him but I think he could go higher in the division no doubt. Good close fight for us to watch

I cannot share the enthusiasm. :conf Bad first impressions truly last.

I was introduced to Vassell by way of hyperbolic chatter from British posters on here, in the aftermath of his claiming the Commonwealth belt against Purdy. The comments and some highlights gave me the impression of a real prospect with genuine world level implications.

Then, I saw Vassell vs. Ushona - and swore to never again take Brits' hyping up of domestic talents at face value without a big grain of salt. :yep

As for the Purdy match, it was on short notice for Lee and still a very close affair where Vassell basically got out-boxed until Purdy gassed from a combination of his own ill preparation and Vassell's admittedly judicious investment in body shots. Purdy wasn't his best and it was still close - and Vassell was nearly done in by his power in spots before the fuel tank depleted.. Ironically it was Howard John Foster with his low reputation who came nearest the mark. Had the rematch Purdy desired after the Watson rematch been secured around 2011, he could well have avenged the loss and maybe topped a best of three series in his then present form.

Granted, Achilles has improved since Ushona (and the unpleasantness that night wasn't entirely his fault and owed much to Ushona's negativity) - but I see no reason based on any of his performances h2h commensurate with quality of competition for people to expect he will stomp a hole in Frankie Gavin, of which I've read plenty on here. 3 years on (from what I can only imagine to be the basis: the so-so triumph over Purdy) it seems the exaggerations continue.

    If anything he is overrated.

In no way is he underrated IMO he is rated fairly. What top class foreign fighters at 147 would he beat?. he is not even the best in Britain let alone the rest of the world. Khan and Brook would easily beat him for example and maybe even Gavin who isn't exactly amazing.

I think he's rated pretty highly, as IB says a lot of brits rate him, he is strong but not a big puncher remember, so Gavin if he comes in on good form should take a comfy points win maybe after getting through a few rocky moments because of Vassels strength

I feveryone voiced their opinions in this way we would keep more pro's in the forum. Tells franky with respect he's picking the other way and gives sensible opinions to support. Farnkie won't agree but he also won't be pissed.

God why can't it always be!!!

Really good match up this is, I think if they both box as well as they can frankie will come through some sticky patches to win on points, fair play to both for putting it on the line

Think Gavin will win handily enough on points Vassell for me isn't underated he is a good domestic to euro level operator & well conditioned.Gavin will not underestimate Vassell looking forward to it.

If Gavin comes up short his career will be at a real crossroads for Vassell a great opportunity to gatecrash a division with lots of decent fights & paydays out there.

Vassell is strong as an Ox, fit as hell. Gavin will outbox him though.

Surely if Gavin was with an Alex Ariza he could make 140? I still think Frankie Gavin on points, but the Curtis Woodhouse fight does make you think Vassell has a BIG chance for the upset.

Love this type of match up - for me Frankie Gavin wins this . We could start seeing the best of Gavin now hes stepping up in class and realise this kid is the real deal.
If he loses then I cant see Frankie going on to do anything in his career as he seems to lack heart despite all the talent on offer..
