Roy gets a lot of criticism on here, and a lot of people think that he was overrated. I happen to think that he's underrated, and I wanted to ask members their views on a few hypothetical fights at specific stages of Roy's career.

Please no trolling, honest answers only.

Roy turned pro in 1989, at 20 years old, fighting between JMW-MW.

Could any of today's best 154 pound guys, have beaten THAT 20-22 year old
    version of Roy?

    Floyd Mayweather
    Saul Alvarez
    Miguel Cotto
    Austin Trout

    What would have happened?

Could any of today's best 160 pound fighters, have beaten the 160 version of Roy, that beat Castro and Hopkins etc?

    GGG
    Sergio Martinez
    Geale
    Strum
    Chavez Jnr

Could any of today's best 168 fighters, have beaten Roy at his SMW peak between 94-96?

    Ward
    Froch
    Kessler
    Bute
    Groves
    De Gale
    Dirrell

Could any of today's best 175 fighters, have beaten the version of Roy from 96-2003?

    Cleverley
    Pascal
    Dawson
    Hopkins
    Kovalev
    Stevenson
    Cloud
    Bellew

Could any of today's best CW's, have beaten the 34 year old Ruiz version of Roy?

    Hernandez
    Jones
    Huck
    Lebedev
    Green
    Wlodarczyk

    What would have happened?

Who could/would have beaten those specific versions of Roy?

Would Roy have gone undefeated against the above fighters?

I know Roy has lost to some of the fighters above, but I'm looking at those specific specific timelines that I've listed.

As a whole, would you say that Roy is underrated or overrated?

    Many thanks!

    Loudon.

Roy beats them all. The only one who might make it interesting is Floyd at 154. But he's a 147 fighter and Roy much closer to 160 than 154. But Floyd has vastly more experience but i think Roy's sheer athleticism and size is too much.

Maybe Floyd just due to age & experince but as the other person said, Floyd is closer to WW and maybe even Jr WW while RJ was basically a MW.

    Thanks guys!

Lets make the thread more interesting, and add a 6th division.

The Ruiz version of Roy Vs today's best HW's.

Remember this is the confident, still at the top of his game, Ruiz version of Roy, NOT the version that lost to Tarver and Johnson.

    I want SERIOUS answers.

I don't want to read things such as:

Wlad knocks him out with one jab, after 5 seconds etc.

    I want serious responses.

    Wlad
    Vitali
    Haye
    Fury
    Povetkin
    Pulev
    Helenius
    Thompson
    Banks
    Chisora
    Wilder
    Adamek
    Cunningham

    What would have happened?

Again, please remember that Roy in 2003, was still a GREAT fighter!

    Thanks!

I think he beats them all except the Klits. They are too big, too strong and skilled enough. But i would not be shocked if he squeezed out a ud using his speed. The Klits aren't prime either.

Floyd would definitely be favored against a very very green 20 year old Roy, but Roy was such a masterful athlete and had a tremendous amateur background anyway.

That would have been great. I think Roy could have taken that on a decision.
