Schaefer: "That doesn't mean he is not good. Bernard wants historically significant fights, and that means unifications."

    That's sounds like a no-go for Hopkins.

No, it was going to be a mandatory.

Hard to unify titles if you get stripped of them for skipping mandatories.

Murat's own mother barely heard of him. Hopkins knows what time it is. Kovalev will leave him in a heap.

Sounds just like Bibella regarding Golovkin! An easy excuse for the masses but the real fight fans know what is up.

The Murat fight was made when all the other name opponents were booked. There are a ton of money fights to be made for Bernard now.

And Murat wasn't nearly as good!

Actually Murat was a mandatory...it had nothing to do with all the other champ being booked. The IBF gave an exemption for Cloud vs. Hopkins to happen with the winner to fight Murat.

Now Murat is no longer Mando because of his visa and now Kovalev is...the only difference is that Kovalev is REALLY good so they will now take a second look at this.

I know he was the mandatory, I also know that there was no other money fight for Bernard at the time so he agreed to fulfill the mandatory. If there had been a bigger fight Hopkins would have just dumped the belt.

If he can get a bigger fight, he'll dump the belt. If he can't he'll fight Kovalev. Hopkins isn't trying to build an impressive IBF light heavyweight title reign at 48 years old. He's gonna fight whoever makes him the most money.

Hopkins has been quoted that he wants to unify....however I do agree with you on one thing, he will drop the IBF belt...Kovalev is a monster and Hopkins is a year away from 50.

If Kovalev knocks Hopkins out, they will be asking for his retirement.

He must not know NBC shows boxing, then. Kovalev and Bryant Jennings have gained a lot of recognition thanks to that show, which has surpassed expectations in the ratings.

The real problem is that Kovalev is too dangerous for Hopkins. It's not a walk-over fight like Murat. Look for GBP to do anything they can for the IBF to let Hopkins not fight Kovalev and still retain his title.
