I saw a documentary once that showed Roy throwing 6 punches in less than a second. I don't believe it was a boxing documentary, as I saw it a long time ago. I believe it was about human speed in general. Anyway, I doubt many would even come close to that kind of speed.

Have you seen the YouTube video that's quite famous?

We can't post links on here anymore, but it's dead easy to find.

Just simply type - Roy Jones Jr training on YouTube.

You'll see the video straight away. Roy's wearing a red vest and a white headband. You can't miss it.

The video is on for 6 mins 36 secs.

The whole video is great to watch.

If you've got the time, then watch it all.

But if you haven't, then start watching from the 6 min mark.

It's Roy on a very fast double end bag.

    Watch what he does.

    It's incredible!

I've replayed it a hundred times over the years.

    :good

I vote Roy because he could throw legitimate power-shots at frightening speed, whereas Joe would often times throw shoe-shine punches which may have been faster but didn't have anything like the same force behind them.

Jones threw faster real combinations. Joe may have flurried quicker. Practical effectiveness matters.

Both were quick. Before Calzaghe starting developing hand issues which so many of his detractors pretend never happened, he was dropping guys with bombs with the same kind of speed. Problem with Roy was that as fast as he was, his competition was abysmal. Calzaghe's as well wasn't always great either even though I think he is a better fighter than Roy. Roy could buzz 5-6 shots quick. Joe could whip the same out so thy are both equal in my estimation

Should probably start a new thread about this, but am I the only one who thinks that Roy's KO 'power' was in fact more to do with his speed, angles, deception and accuracy* - the ability to throw the punches that the guy just 'didn't see coming' than the actual force behind his strikes?

    edit* and timing

    Dropping guys with bombs?

Most of Joe's opponents were abysmal.

    Roy fought much better competition.

How was Joe a better fighter?

Joe had speed, but he didn't have the shot variation that Roy had, or the power and the accuracy that went with it.
