Yeah id say mid way, tunney was a tough son of a gun,but he would have to be on his toes the whole fight and i could see tyson catching him sometime in the fight, when he slowed down a bit or got cornered.
Tyson would work Tunney's body early, then come over the top with hooks. Throwing the jab on a regular basis while advancing would also serve him well to find the range. Tunney's slickness would take him into the middle rounds, but he gets chopped down in the same fashion as Tyrell Biggs.
This is a bad matchup for Tunney, imo,Tysons fast hands two fisted power and excellent ring cutting skills give Tunney severe problems Tunney was a master at boxing on the retreat ,but Tyson was very astute at ring geometry, unlike other power hitters like Liston, who followed his prey around,I dont feel tunney has enough pop in his right to keep Tyson off of him the whole fight,he would undoubtedly land plenty of short jabs and quick one twos but sooner or later Tyson gets through, may be 8 rds.
Tunney never faced anoyone with Tyson's power, let alone speed and aggressiveness. As skilled as Gene is, I have to say early, brutal KO.
Tyson here for sure, his speed of hand and foot are the key elements here and i highly doubt Tunney would hit him hard enough to garner respect.

I think that that is true. If Tunney hits Tyson with something early, like he did dempsey (and I think that this would be his plan), the fight becomes very different. Tyson was a very thoughtful fighter; you can often see him stop and think. If he does that against Tunney- and a significant early blow when Tyson is coming in aggressively would cause that- he'll start getting hit with the Tunney jab. He is smart enough to slip it; Tunney is smart enough to hit him when he slips. Tunney was 10x Buster Douglas- a fat lazy bum who got lucky one night.
Tyson laughs at Tunney's best and blasts him out within 3. Gene doesn't have the firepower to hold off a prime, speedy and powerful 220 pound monster like Tyson. Tyson has fast feet too and would cut off any escape Tunney attempted. Gene never once beat a powerpuncher. Now he's going to survive against one of the most fast and powerful punchers in HW history? Sorry guys. That's about as big a stretch as I've seen on these boards.
I agree. P4P, Gene was. At HW? He hits with nowhere near the force that Buster does with any punch in his arsenal. A Douglas jab landed with the force of a Tunney powerpunch. Tunney just seems too small and weak to survive against a powerpuncher like Tyson.
