I think Garcia is ducking that fight. He already started with the, "I fight who I want! who is he to claim a fight with me? I'm intouchable! I'm the champ! he must stand in line." bla bla bla Danny is so scared...
Tranny Garcia's dad has been unusually quiet on fighting Matthysse. After Morales and Judah, Tranny is looking for other old men are looking to fight.
word is they are both going to fight different opponents on the same card to generate more interest in this fight so they can both get paid what it's worth. it's a super fight imo and at this point...the public doesn't really know who either guy is. build their stars a little more....then make the fight. i think it's an even fight and i don't believe danny is ducking him at all. they just want to be paid what the fight is worth. there is no second crack at this. at 140...there is no bigger match to be made.
Dangerous thing to do. Garcia already said he has one more 140 fight before moving up. Just sounds like a reason not to make the fight.
they're all going to end up at 147 eventually. they're all going to be small welterweights. danny and lucas are not that big.
This fight isn't going to happen. Matthysse already agreed to wait on Garcia once by fighting Peterson and letting Garcia fight Judah. Matthysse was already Garcia's mandatory. They told him he'd get the fight afterwards...which is now. So Matthysse goes and signs with Al Haymon because Al promises him that if he signs it's insurance that he'll get the Garcia fight, even though he's already been Garcia's mandatory for a year now. Garcia doesn't want any part of this...at all. It's totally obvious. He's pricing himself out of this fight because he has no confidence he can win. Having these guys fight anyone but each other is a waste of f+++in' time and Golden Boy should know better than to allow this fight to fall by the wayside. The fights not going to get any bigger by having them fight other opponents. They are ranked 1 and 2 at 140, get on with it already. You don't let a fight like this go by the wayside and insult the fans with some co-feature bull****. If the fight ends up being as good as many hope, they can do it again and make more money. All I have to say is that the only one that has been completely straight forward in all of this has been Matthysse. He's been chasing Garcia for awhile now just can't get him in the ring and Golden Boy is to blame for it IMO. Stop coddling Garcia and get his ass in the ring for his mandatory which is a fight all the fans want to see.
Danny has some size to him. He goes up close to 160 on fight night. He started his career at 140+. When he moves up to WW, he will fill out and be a solid WW in terms of size.
all of this is easy for us to say as fans but lets be honest...this is a super fight. it won't be on ppv though so their opportunity to make any significant amount of money for it just isn't there now. both guys are going to take a significant risk in this fight and both deserve to be rewarded handsomely. make no mistake about it...both guys can come out permanantly damaged from this bout. anyone remember cotto/margarito, castillo/corrales or vasquez/marquez? none of those guys made the money they deserved for those fights and none of them were the same afterwards. there is no second chance to get this one right. i am not opposed to them building this up by doing a co-feature.
:good the post is spot on. although it's not Golden Boy who's the problem here, it's Garcia who's scared out of his mind. they'll protect Garcia if he wants protecting. which is clearly the case. when it comes to the big fights on the international scene, it's always the American fighter who ducks. it's frustrating. this is a huge fight that needs to happen, but i fear they're going to **** Lucas over again. Lucas has done all that was asked of him. there is nothing more he can do.
Co-features against who? You have Garcia who has already beaten: Morales X2 Khan Judah You have Matthysse coming off of a 3 round demolition of Peterson. His stock isn't going to get much higher than it is now. Some fights no matter how good they are have a cap on how much money it will make. You call Matthysse-Garcia a superfight, according to us the hardcore fan yes, but not the general public. Superfights are on PPV, not on regular Showtime/HBO. Corrales-Castillo was fought in front of less than 5,000 at the Mandalay Bay in Vegas. The fighters made the real big money in the rematch. These two guys (Garcia-Matthysse) are as big as they are going to get at 140, there's nobody really left in the division to lift their profiles much more. They are both with the same promoter, same manager, same tv network. Garcia has the WBC belt and Matthysse is his mandatory. Time to do the fight is now. It's a waste to put them in there with anybody else at this point.
as a fan...i totally agree with you. but from the business standpoint...you have to figure these guys know they should be paid highly for the risk they're about to take. neither guy is going to back down on their share of the pie...and even then u have to consider gbp is not doing this stuff for fun so they have to make money as well. there's discussion of this fight taking place in dodgers stadium in l.a. if that is the case then u can expect that place to fill up because socal is filled with boxing die hards who will want to see this fight. would it hurt to put them both on the same card against 2 no hopers and let it be known the winners will fight each other? both can win impressively....then they talk about their up coming bout and promote it right on the spot. something so simple can raise the value of a promotion. at this point...fight could be announced tomorrow...the only ones excited about it will be the die hards.
