Ward has nothing to keep this guy off him. Tiny, feather fisted, average speed.

He's really NOT. He just lets himself get hit, by the punches he knows won't hurt him. It's the same way Golovkin fights, and the same way I was taught long ago.

Too tired to explain it all again, but it lets you stay 100% focused on your opponent, and ready to capitalize on any mistake he makes. It only works if you have fast hands, great reflexes, and a long reach.

I'm a little concerned, though, that Kovalev gave White so little regard. He's been much more defensive (head movement) in other fights, against less-dangerous punchers. If Kovalev has a weakness, it may be that he's starting to believe his own hype. That could be a problem down the road.

That last is the issue I see, almost too reckless. Fine as hell to watch, but he can't start thinking he's invincible. In fact White himself was getting KOs left and right before he got caught cold by Don George, and since then he's seemed gunshy.

Maybe Kovalev worked out early that White was unlikely to trouble him, but he better be on his guard when he comes in against a banger. Certainly White was on the back foot from the word go and just never got into the fight. I think it was Kovalevs like second shot that sent White skidding sidewards - looked like it just put the shock on Cornelius. But Kov can't count on that every fight.

I see him taking Bhop in his mando (tho Bhop couldn't be blamed for dropping the belt), but it will be interesting to see how he reacts to being tied up a bit. Also we need to see how good his stamina is going into the later rounds - he's got a high workrate, and his conditioning had better be good if someone can weather that early storm.

I never knew he killed someone, usually when a puncher hurts someone badly/kills them, they are never as aggressive anymore but this guy is still knocking out dudes.

    Cold as ice.

If he is for real? No it's all an illusion.

    Calm down kiddo.

So Kovalev (a fast starter) beat Campillo (a very slow starter) handily. Doesn't make him next the next RJJ or something.

Ward perhaps doesn't hit hard, but he hits hard enough.

I haven't seen a lot of Kovalov but I've seen bits and pieces, he offers out a lot of openings that Ward would would pick apart.

Stick him up at 175 and he would beat Kovalev, the hype suddenly getting heaped on him is daft.

I don't think people see him as the next RJJ. Decent fundamentals, great power and a high workrate is enough to trouble most light heavies.

Im not really impressed at all

Yes he can hit and he comes forward but over all he is slow, sluggish, lacks any kind of defence and throws stupid shots that would get him countered easily

Until he beats someone with a little bit more boxing skill Im not going to be sold on this guy
