You're right, M. Now that I think of it -- good as they were -- the fighters I spoke with were not dreadnaughts...so, like all of the human condition, it comes down to who's ox is being gored.

 

Option 2 for me. The 'junior' divisions do make sense a lot of the time. Multiple champions per weight class don't.

The problem here though that it would be the same one we have in the cruiserweight division now.

Cruisers beef themselves up to the heavyweight division because that's where the money's at.

If there is a super-heavy division, you'd get natural 220 pounders beefing themselves up to 235 and over to compete where the money's at. And the money will most certainly be at super-heavyweight.
People pay big money to see the big dinosaurs go at it. Always have, always will.

Rather, I'd extend to cruiserwight limit to 220 pounds...but that I guess presents it's own problems.

Don't know if it would work or not, but one option would be to ditch the cruiserweight division, but imprement a superheavyweight division to compensate. You could have say:

Heavyweight 175lbs-220lbs

Superheavyweight 220lbs+

 

Get rid of 140. It's a usless division.
