Some have suggested that, but there have been fighters with similar speed to Roy (eg Camacho, Taylor) who produced nowhere near the same effect with their punches.

I think Camacho fits the description above in his earlier career at 130. There didn't seem to be that much on his punches, but the speed and angles contributed to plenty of stoppages.

I don't really put Roy into that category. If you take the kayo of Art Serwano as an example (yes, I know it's Art Serwano), it was just a brutal overhand right that finished it with one punch.

Roy's flurries were eye-catching, and there was an element of surprise with the way he landed his leaping left-hook, but you don't score one-punch knockouts over durable guys like Tate and Malinga without having genuine power. Make no mistake about it, when Roy planted his feet he could bang at 160-168.

I remember Del Valle saying that Jones hit very hard, although I think Toney characteristically dismissed his power. It would be interesting to see what other opponents have said about how hard he hit.

The same thing I wrote in another thread only against Roy. Roy's varied collection of bouncers, garbagemen, off duty police officers, and sanitation workers is one of the greatest collection of nobodies an ATG could have. Don't claim Roy had better opposition. His was worse than Calzaghe's.

Jones was faster with the single punch, while Joe was faster with the combinations.

Thanks. I've wondered about that for a bit. Just seemed in so many of his KDs he'd snap out a shot at just the moment a guy was off balance or trying to load up themselves. Also the way he'd be able to strike so fast for a KD without seeming to load up - hard to imagine were the power would come from.

I'll keep my eyes open for other quotes from his opponents.:thumbsup

Love how all the Royboys conveniently disregard that his fast punches were the result of heavy steroid use. Calzaghe's punches were natural. That his natural punch speed is about equal to Jones' drug fueled turbo rockets says it all

No , All this poll will show is people telling the truth and Calzaghe fans jumping up and down , punching their screens in rage of people being truthful about their "hero" . Roy Jones was lightning fast , Tarver should have given Roy his nickname because it truly look like Magic when Roy threw a combo at cha .

And when it comes to joe....... ahh whatever... NEXT ! .

and it looked "magical" when Tarver knocked Jones the **** out with 1 shot.

1 shot Roy and his "magical" powers........ through the use of steroids! :patsch

there was one thing that he did faster though... and that was running from the best in all the divisions that he fought in. :yep it's so so sad.
