...affect his resolve fighting Broner tonight? have always found fighters who have a legit other alternative don't fight with the same do-or-die. It's tough enough for Paulie at his best to survive Broner, but think the analyst job is the straw that breaks the camel's back.
Paulie is past his prime. He took the job on Showtime becvause he kows he's past his prime nad obviously he likes to talk boxing. He said he enjoyed his job. He's talked about retirement in the recent history aswell. He obviously knows the end is near but the question is when the going gets tugh will he still bite down like in the past?
He's always shown so much heart in the past that I can't see it having that much of an effect. I think that kind of resolve is intrinsic in your character, I don't think it just turns off. Plus, the bad blood between both guys and the fact that Paulie is such an underdog might have lit a fire in him that offsets any thoughts of quitting.
Once the notion of retiring or another less life-threatening way ta make a buck is planted, in spite of his honest pronouncements to fight to the death, he's only a shell of who he was.
I'll be sat on the edge of my seat cheering for Paulie. Anything to get that arrogant (I can't use colourful language) Broner out of there is good by me.
Interesting question JG. For a guy who relies on his own toughness to help him win fights, due to his own lack of power, any compromise can be critical.
Nothing came easy for Paulie. I'm sure he's not taking Broner lightly. Win or lose, whatever he shows in the ring tonight is what he's got left. He won't hold anything back.
paulie doesn't look it but he is probably one of the toughest guys in boxing, there is no quit in him. Either the ref stops it or he keeps going.
will Paulie have as loud a Brooklyn rooting section as the Brits who came trans- atlantic to shout for Hatton?
Broner tends to sit back and give rounds away. I believe Paulie has enough boxing ability to outbox Broner for the first half of the fight. Can Paulie run circles around Broner, yes I believe so as Broner tends to fight flat footed with a wide stance. Can he do it for 12 rounds? I don't think he can anymore, he's older and slowing down. Plus all the bad blood at least on paulies side I'm not sure he will sick to his game plan. To Broner this seems to be another day, it's all fun and games to this guy while Paulie is heated throughout the press conferences. I also wonder if Broner is taking Paulie serious. He seems to have this attitude he's going to go in and Just ko Paulie. What happens if he finds himself down on the cards because he can't get to Paulie early? What happens when he has to earn hard rounds? We just don't know because he gives rounds up early and take guys out when he feels like it. I'm not sure that what he's done in the past will work here. I believe Broner needs to come out to win from round 1 and on, or Paulie could get ahead on the cards. I expect Broner to win With some bit of controversy.
I don't think he's at the point of being "washed up" yet so he could retire after a couple fights maybe. He's a great commentator and he still has some mileage left. Roy Jones on the other hand...
