Broner is rated as top 10 p4p by some people but he has not beat anyone who is world level. De Leon, Demarco & Rees are not top level fighters by any stretch of the imagination. Only now is Broner stepping up to fight Paulie, who is basically a gatekeeper for world level. People hate on Broner cause he talks like he is a legend and is overrated by many considering what he has achieved.
People somewhat hate on Broner because besides adopting Mayweather's style in the ring, he unfortunately has also chosen to adopt his repellent persona. He also had some fights earlier in his career that were relative stinkers, debatably losing against Ponce De Leon specifically. And though you can make a case for his competition level being solid given his number of fights, he has yet to face anyone that is truly a world level guy and unfortunately his fights just aren't that exciting in general as a result since he's been blowing away B level fighters. Rios has a somewhat annoying personality outside of the ring in my view, some weight issues, and obviously the Abril fight was one of the bigger robberies of the past five years or so, and his team was in denial about it, which is never good for PR. However, he also doesn't talk like he's the best fighter ever, and in the ring he is rarely in a bad fight with a warrior's mentality. His level of competition is also higher than Broner's(though it's fairly close) and due to that and his style his fights are generally more competitive/entertaining than Broner's.
Broner should be hated purely on the basis that he's a complete **** with zero intelligence and a personality that even his mother would find hard to like.
Every time I see a Rios comment on Facebook, he's promoting a 5K for charity or giving his fellow fighters a shout out for their upcoming fights. I don't have Broner on Facebook, but I'm sure he's talking the same kind of trash he always does when he's in front of a camera. I like Broner as a boxer, but I'd like to see him more focused on that instead of the image he's trying to sell. I know he's trying to make money, but at this point he's already a big name in boxing. Maybe that really is him as a person, but it comes off as forced on TV.
As much as Rios can be a twat at least you know its his personality to be like that but when Broner starts talking **** it is such an obvious and cynical attempt to be a mini-Mayweather and to make BS controversy plus it usually isn't funny or original. Some of the things he comes out with are just so cringeworthy but his entourage play along and laugh anyway so he thinks he's funny/
Which says a lot about the market he's trying to sell himself to. Americans like this type of controversy. He knows that''s how he's gonna make some money. If you wtch his interview on HBO post Rees and his interview with the brits post Rees it's like he's not the same person.
Both Broner and Rios will amount to nothing Rios lacks skills and is about to have his face caved in by Pac Broner has already lost and is on the path to getting ktfo or outboxed when he steps up in competition. Atleast Rios is stepping up his competition
I think they're both dicks, with Broner being the more unlikeable of the two. Didn't really notice Rios getting the preferential treatment the thread-starter referred to. He's a lot of fun to watch but I haven't heard many people claim he's the future of the sport or anything. Most people regard him as a very entertaining, limited brawler who'll be fun to watch before he burns out. The hype that Broner receives is undoubtedly the reason for some of the ill-feeling towards him. But it's mostly because he's a ****.
Some people like Bam Bam because he is an aggressive fighter - those kinds of Guys are always popular. Regarding Broner, I don't dislike him because of his opposition or style - but because of his persona. He comes across as someone that you couldn't stand being in a room with for more than 4 minutes. FMJ at least has a reflective side to go with his over the top act - with Broner, there is just nothing but idiotic megalomania. He's got everything in terms of talent, but I don't think he will go on to a great legacy unless he is very lucky with his handlers.
US hypejobs (Maybe not Broner - we will find out), but both exciting can't take that away from them. I think they're in a way a blessing to the sport, because they have character. Regarding tonight, i think Broner could be the next big thing, but if he don't stop Paulie - then i might wait a little longer to judge him and how far he can go. But sometimes listening specially Broner can be too pathetic, while Rios is just a brawler.
