This was a very good fight but i just dont think "Broner" did enough to win the fight.

I agree, the commentary was awful tonight. Hopkins is a terrible commentator. I much prefer Tarver or Roy Jones. Hopkins was also heavily biased in favor of Broner. Hopkins had it even after 4 rounds, and Paulie clearly won 3 of those rounds.

This has cracked the all-time top 20 RBR threads in replies and is currently sitting at #16, surpassing Froch vs. Kessler II, Salido vs. Lopez II, Huck vs. Afolabi II, and Pacquiao vs. Marquez III and bumping Cotto vs. Trout off the list.

I agree with you, Broner is a hype job. He gets hit with overhand rights too much, and does not have that great a defense (or stamina). I love how he said they are going to take a poll for his next opponent. I wholeheartedly expect that poll to be rigged, and avoid any of the top dogs at 140 like the ****ing plague. I expect some past-it, has been at 147 (like mosley). Or maybe Desert Storm (who has no power), or a seriously faded Marquez. 147 is turning crappy.

He didn't do enough to score a knockout. He clearly won a decision.

I think what won it for Broner was the intangibles. the fact that he maintained an upright stance, while Paulie was all over the place. if you are going to win a fight on volume, then you really can't get rocked and you really can't be fighting off your backfoot. Paulie out threw Broner, but Broner was the aggressor most of the time especailly in the 2nd half of the fight. the close rounds went to Broner because of his ring generalship.

AB was too big for 135. He is too big for 140. 147 is right where he belongs.

and come to think about it, just a few weeks ago there was the mass exodus of *****s to Check Hook, when no one could quote each other, and the lounge went away and people thought ESB was done. what an ESB resurgence since then.

All very true of course, but IMO Paulie lands (in this fight and in general i.e. other fights where he been involved in a close decision) more shots to the body and head than people give him credit for. It's like for some people they completely disregard what he is doing because it's soft.

Also out of interest, do you give any value AT ALL to punches landing on the arms? For me that's gotta be worth more than zero- after all, your arms are still part of your body and that can still hurt or have a cumulative effect. I'm more impressed by a guy who can avoid shots than a guy who just stands there and takes an 8 punch combo to the arms anyway.

Still had it 7-5 Broner but can see it both ways.

Yeah, but I sure do miss the lounge. Struggling to find a good site to shoot the bull when not many good fights are on the horizon.

I absolutely understand the"clean amd effective punching" rule, and Broner won in that respect, but there's a point in which you gotta draw a line in there... If u throw 1-2 clean punches vs 10-12 less powerful punches, who wins in ur opinionn? Not stating these are the stats that hapened for this fight, just an example!?!

Summary: Broner is not winning against any of the top 5 at Welter. Mayweather/Marquez/Bradley/Pacquiao/Alexander. Maidana/Provodnikov/Thurman would kill him. Ortiz/Thurman/Guerrero/Brook would probably dominate him as well.

At 140, I would pick him to beat Khan only because I think it's inevitable that he would clip Khan at some point, probably in the first 3 rounds. He beats Alvarado easily. Olusegun/Rios/Peterson beat him on style matchup. Garcia/Matthysse/Judah dominate him.

I don't think anyone beats him at 135 though, he's too damn big. Vasquez and Abril won't be able to get to him just like Rees and Malignaggi, and Burns just isn't good enough. Gonzalez would have a chance.

For Paulie, a fight with Bradley, Brook, Guerrero, or Alexander is definitely winnable, but he's more likely to face Thurman, Provodnikov, Ortiz, Berto, or Josesito for a more exciting boxer/puncher matchup. Likely to win but take damage. I think the only guys you could say are really better than Paulie at 147 are Floyd, JMM, and Manny. I'd give him a good shot with anyone else.

I'm not sure what you were watching, but Broner landed that overhand right all night. The only knock is that his punch volume was too low in the early rounds, but overall he outclassed Paulie and land better punches. When I think about the Mayweather Mosley fight although Mayweather won just about every round the only thing that people remember was the huge punch that Mosley landed in the 2nd round that hurt FM. Paulie did not have anything remotely close to that, just a high volume of love taps but his power was never a threat.
