But again equate that to other sports.
    Nicholas won more majors
    Pele scored more goals
Bradman got more runs....doesn't mean they were better....this is a different era

Maybe use are right an boxing is the only field of humanity that is regressing...
Maybe by the end of the decade my we sister could be world champion if she studies footage of Ali and SRR

40+ year golfers beat tiger woods on a regular basis...
Are golfers getting worse as well?

Postulate tho'. that the ATGs were simply standing higher above the rest of their divisions (hence the precocious records), because they were so outstanding. This would imply that there's always gonna be guys who have something unique that makes them stand out, but that skill sharing, fitness and evolution have narrowed the gap between the greats and the contenders.

What I'm getting at is the real greats have always been there, but better fitness and training etc have allowed the next tier to get ever closer to them. Trainers have learned the lessons and techniques developed by the greats, and promulgated them - ensuring ever greater competition between those with a natural 'gift' for boxing, and those who have been trained.

This model fits your perception, whilst at the same time allowing that boxers and boxing as a whole has evolved.

There was no 168 division back then.

Would Ward and Calzaghe beat Spinks and Foster?

Hearns was at his peak 30 years ago.

So you're saying that nobody today could beat Hearns?

I thought today's fighters were the best ever in each weight class?

Benny Leonard and Duran are widely regarded as the best ever at 135. Floyd and Manny are great though.

Your theory is well thought out, and based on sound logic, but I am moving in a different direction.

The more I have learned about boxing, the more I have thought that the weakest eras, can pose challenges to the strongest champions.

They would have been too big to fight at MW.

So would they have beaten Spinks or Foster, weighing between 160-175 pounds?
