Cotto vs Hatton at 140? Prime, who wins this should be interesting

No poll, I want to hear you're Hypothesis, the tea and crumpet set will be writhing in hyperbole on this one.

I will give my opinion after reviewing all the salient points.

 

I'd back Hatton at 140.

I always thought Cotto looked a little fragile and shaky at 140, at 147 it's a different story.

 

Hatton destroys Miguel Cotto at 140. Cotto never looked all that impressive at 140, he showed power but aside that, he was way vulnerable on defense and facing Hatton, he would've ran out of gas by the 6th.

I think it will be a rough fight; but I see Cotto winning by a late too or split decision. I say tko because of what happened to Hatton vs Floyd. I feel something similar would happen to The Hitman. Great match up if it did happen

Cotto is a level above Hatton.

He took on Bailey and Torres at 140 who were as tough as Hatton, albeit maybe not as skilled, but Cotto's skill level would see him through.

 

Hatton stops him late, Cotto shaky chin and bad stamina would be his down fall in this one, Hatton would be on his face busting body and head shots all night long so Cotto can't get leverage on his power shots.

 

Hatton was a different fighter at 140. he had much more speed and could closedown much faster. Hatton vs Floyd was at 147, and although Hatton was very competitive, he didn't have the same speed he had a few years earlier at 140. Collazo also gave him fits at 147, and he barely escaped with a very close decision in that fight. The Hatton that fought Kostya Tszyu I think would find a way to win against Cotto in a tough fight. Not sure if he could stop Cotto, but I think he'd throw more punches and probably land more, and maybe even get a flash knockdown on Cotto or something.

 

Hatton would win at 140lbs, Cotto would win at 147lbs.

Hatton would rush run in a catch a well timed jab to the mandible and Miguel would finish him.

Hatton was KOing Eruo cans left and right and a lot was accumulation of punches but when he fought anyone of substance with the exception of Tszyu he went the distance.

I think any version of Cotto beats any version of Hatton.

 

I think the only version of Cotto who Hatton beats is the emaciated version who fought Malignaggi. At their best head to head, Cotto beats Hatton, likely by TKO, in a competitive and entertaining fight.

 

I'd favour Hatton at 140lbs at the time the fight was viable. Cotto was drained at 140lbs which made him vulnerable and he hadn't peaked yet and would inevitably fight Hattons fight and trade with him.

Cotto overall is the better fighter though, he improved a lot after moving up and would have beaten Hatton handily at welter.
