The fundamental flaw in this whole argument is quite simple to see. The same dickheads who hang off the nuts of fighters like Pacquioa, and Leonard will call Mayweather a ****, for doing exactly what they did.
how can you make that assessment by re-watching Canelo vs Trout? That was one of Canelo's best performances. He knocked him down and showcased moves that he hasn't showcased before, like slipping punches, making the opponent miss with upper body movement, and fighting a complete fight. i don't see how watching that fight could make you think it will be one of Floyd's easiest fights. how could it be easier then Guerrero? Guerrero provided hardly any resistance to Floyd.
All the diva stuff aside, Floyd's a tried and proven pro, he's not scared and 100% confident he'll beat Canelo. Given the brief amount of success shot fighters like Cotto, Judah and Mosely had with Floyd due to their speed and power, I don't know how anyone thinks Alvarez won't push Floyd hard in this fight. Trout is a very talented JMW who made his fight close with Canelo more to Canelo's lack of activity. He never had Canelo in any trouble. With Angel training Alvarez, the stamina issue maybe non-existent. This will be a hell of a fight and I haven't said that about a Mayweather bout in years (if ever).
So you think if someone asks for a catchweight then they're automatically scared? You think Manny Pacquiao was scared of the bulk of his opponents these last four years too?
I believe the controlling of distance will be key in this fight mate. I see nothing in Canelo's footwork to suggest he will be able to get close enough to land what he needs to make an impact on Floyd. I just envisage Floyd staying mid to long range and feeding off of Canelo's methodical, some might say predictable, attacks. I agree with you that Canelo's head movement was excellent against Trout and he showed improvement in a lot of areas but my assessment of the Mayweather fight comes from taking the best Canelo has shown and what that looks like against a Mayweather. Mayweather is not Trout.
you mean to tell me a 23 year old who is in top condition, balloons to 170+ after a 154lb weigh in, a world class fighter with 40+ fights........is drained by two pounds.....:blood
canelo took the fight at 152. too bad. and for someone who regularily handicaps fights hes probably going to take the penalty...probably 15 percent of his purse. so all your crying is going to be for nothing. mosleys decision over career 140-pound cano?...at 147? please...don't be stupid. the last we saw of mosley prior to the canelito fight was shane begging...literally...for naz to stop the fight against paq. incidentally, the shane/caneliot fight is where most people realized that alvarez is just not that good. a 154-pound version of tommy Morrison without the duke one punch power. what you don't understand, because you obviously don't gamble on fights and, therefore, don't back your mouth with your wallet, is that when trout was down 0-4 you turned a normal boxer that fights like winky wright into one that now must fight like felix Trinidad. Trout, who possesses a 52 percent ko ratio, had to now fight aggressively to ko canelito as he had no chances on the cards. is that too hard for you to understand? by the way, no one said that canelito paid off the judges...that's what he has gbp for. as for josesito who knows what was made behind the scenes at gbp. all that's known now is that lopez is ruined and is a fighter handicappers will be fading. I bet maidana over lopez in the link below. nobody takes a fight less than three months, going up in weight twice and given only three months to recooperate after a brutal war. Oscar knew this and exploited it. that's karma. http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=481392&page=2 josesito is a fighter that could've had a nice career and now is done at the expense of canelito and gbp. that's karma. now, did you intentionally fail to submit a comment on how canelito beat up 110-pound archie solis? because I know you wouldn't have if Floyd beat up solis.
apparantly you didn't read my last comment where I agreed with you that "open scoring is awful in general". On this point I completely agree with you, the fact that it was open scoring changed the way Trout fought and that's what I don't like open scoring. That said, you don't have to be a gambler to understand this. I understand what you are saying here fully and I agree. Canelo is quoted as saying he was present when Solis was injured, but that he wasn't the individual who attacked him. He said one of his brothers attacked him. "It's not true at all. [The fight] wasn't with me. It was with one of my brothers, but not with me. I was there. I just want to clarify that it's not true." -Canelo I truly don't know who to believe. Solis has a different recollection of events. I wasn't there, and don't know what happened. I didn't respond to that because simply I don't know too much about it. It's a "he said, he said". I guess you believe that it was all Canelo and his brother took the fall for him, but there's really no way to know so that's why I didn't comment on it. And just to be clear, you seem to think that I am picking on Floyd or something. I'm not. And I'm really not digging into their personal lives like you are. My main gripe with Floyd isn't that he beat his wife (allegedly) after saying years earlier that he dedicated the Corrales fight to all the battered women out there. (more hyprocrisy) I'm not even going there, I am simply holding Floyd accountable for his statements on catchweights in the buildup to Cotto and the hypocrisy he showed in demanding a catchweight for Canelo. It's Floyd's own words that are being used against him. He made a big deal out of how he thought catch weights are meaningless.
Not automatically scared. If the catchweight serves a purpose, like SRL (160) vs Lalonde (175) meeting at 168, it doesn't mean they are scared. you really have to look at this on a case by case basis. like Dawson vs Ward. Dawson offered to go down to 168. that doesn't mean Ward was scared. Pacquiao vs Cotto meeting at 145 pounds. well was Pacquiao scared? i doubt it, but that was actually what Floyd made a big deal out of. he criticized Pacquiao for draining Cotto at a catch weight 2 pounds under the weight limit. (sound familiar?) he said he still considered Cotto to be an undefeated fighter because of that. The main problem here is Floyd criticized Pacquiao for doing something, then did the exact same thing to Canelo. Maybe Floyd isn't scared, but for a man to go against his word, it suggests that he might be scared or at least worried about his opponent if he is doing something he criticized someone else for doing.
Oh so the main problem is that he criticized Pacquiao for doing it. Glad we clarified what all the crap was really about. **watches as Pacquiao agrees to drug testing with someone else**
The main problem is that Floyd made a big deal out of not doing something, then turned around and did just that. He made it seem like he's not the sort of guy that would demand a catch weight within a weight class, he specifically said he wanted Cotto to be at his best. When you say that, and then the next time you fight at 154 you demand a catch weight, the fans are going to be left scratching their heads. I want to support Mayweather, but the guy makes it hard to do so when he pulls stuff like this.
the only fans scratching their heads are the ones who dont realize why the canelo fight was only ever going to be made at a catchweight sure, its floyd going back on his word, but foresight can be a shortsighted think sometimes
I'm going to echo what KO Kidd said... Maybe he's just a little bit scared, but he won't show it, and he is a professional as well as a shrewd businessman. FMJ knows the art of negotiation that's for sure, and that's not such a bad thing. But any way you slice it, he doesn't come off as genuine with the whole catchweight thing. Like HoldMyBeer said, foresight could be shortsighted, especially when you don't know what the lies ahead in the future. there's a reason why he demanded a catchweight against Canelo. it must be because Canelo is more of a threat to him then Cotto was. Whether that makes him scared, worried, or smart I guess is debatable. But the inconsistent statements vs actions is not.
