Saying he would still have been a champion is like saying popeye would still have beat up Bluto without the spinage
Boxing is a very simple sport. There's a very simple equation that fighters have to respect and if they do they reap the benefit. Those who use the most PEDs do best, those who don't they don't do that well. Also taking creatine or drinking whey protein shakes or using other bodybuilding supplements can increase your performance in the ring dramatically which is why we have all these crossover athletes from the world of bodybuilding dominating the sport of boxing today.
Ha! Roy was a huge MW! He turned pro in 1989 at the age of 20, at 154. He fought Ruiz in 2003, at 34, weighing around 196 - minus his clothes. That's a difference of 14 years. One of the funniest things I've ever read on here! Even Bailey wouldn't have gone that far.
He turned pro in 89 cause he was ducking a rematch with that Korean bloke who schooled him at the Olympics
Haha! And this is even funnier. You've just made me laugh out loud Eric! Ha! I like your sense of humour. :good
A laughed as i wrote it...need to Google his name and add him to the Roy Jones ducking list next time there's a thread
A glass jawed fraud, who wasn't in any danger whatsoever, when he fought a 220 pound, top 5 ranked HW?
Just done some research...Jones was offered a rematch with park si hun in 89.. Jones turned pro the next day..... Now that's a duck
We have been over this. Ruiz hadn't had a KO in almost half a Decade leading up to that fight and Jones didn't face the clinching, mauling, wrestling, grabbing, faking low blows version of Ruiz that Holyfield, Oquendo, Golota, Rahman, Johnson, Toney, Chagaev, and Valuev did. Jones has a Glass Jaw it is why Ruiz was picked among other things like Ruiz possessing literally zero skills. Roy's whole career was smoke and mirrors. I found an old interview the other day where he said Ruiz was going to outweigh him by 50 pounds which was complete BS :roflatsch Jones is a Con Artist.
:deal I can't believe so many people rate Jones win of John Ruiz so highly. Ruiz was a glorified clubfighter who got gift decisions, was a notorious cheater and got away with EXCESSIVE clinching due to his connections with Don King. Ruiz was one of the biggest cons in boxing history and should have lost most of the big fights that he "won". Ruiz was the only HW with a name that Jones could beat, like you said he was a CAREFULLY handpicked opponent. Not really the amazing feat that most people make it out to be.
