Just wondering about how Boxnation can be sustainable with the ammount of promotors & foreign fights being shown now. The only source of income to Boxnation is through subscriptions, not sure what the number is but it can't be huge. I just can't see the channel being around in 5 years time, for sure not at the level it is now. I love Boxnation, I think it's improved vastly from it's first 6 months which had Cotto Margaritto re-runs for months. I'd just like to see the channel survive & with the ammount of people now involved and the money they must be spending, I can't see it lasting.
They are clearly taking a massive gamble. Frank wouldnt name the number of subscribers yesterday but id be surprised if its more than 20000. Getting the Rainham Steel chief exec in to buy a shareholding is obviously a way of pumping cash in to be able to afford to buy the US fights and make the UK ones.. It could work if they suddenly get another 100k subscribers but I cant see that as realistic so will depend on how deep Franks pockets are..
More promotors, more shows, more foreign fights = more subscribers = more revenue. Frank ****** has been in the game over 30 years I think he knows what he is doing,I wouldnt worry about it.
But will More promotors, more shows, more foreign fights = more subscribers = more revenue??? The news this week suits current subscribers, it has had the time now to get all the people who will ever subscribe becasue they like boxing subscribed. This won't bring in a influx of new boxing fans on a channel that has no outside advertising streams (Sky, Terrestrial)
As someone who works in finance and is aware of BoxNation for reasons I can't go into I assure you it doesn't work.
They have subscriptions and also get something from TV advertising. I doubt their advertising revenue is that much, but I'm guessing they are doing better than when they were advertising kick dummy. It's mostly cheap TV. It's largely repeats. They only have to do 2 or 3 live broadcasts a week. Bunce Hour shouldn't cost too much. Outside broadast of the UK shows will cost a bit. Maybe the format does actually work in the UK?
There are alot of casuals outhere who will want to see the big Mayweather fights,Manny Pacqaiuo vs Bradon Rios is coming up soon and will probably be on Box Nation.Amir Khan is now a fixture on Box Nation which should bring interest, its the big American shows that will bring the new subscribers I think.I mean whats 10 or 15 quid a month for round the clock boxing and with all the new promotors on board there will be weekly live shows to keep the avid boxing fan satisfied.Carl Frampton will bring alot of new Irish subscribers too,I think Frank has the right idea and is doing us a great service. If it fails its probably more down to the fact that people just arnt that interested in boxing anymore, which is sad. I really hope that wont be the case.
Love the channel, hope it thrives but I do wonder how they balance the books. Putting on domestic shows costs a lot and they're planning on doing more, the trouble is I don't see how that will bring in more subscribers.
I see myself as a bit more than a casual fan but not an avid fan, being in the UK I enjoy good domestic fights aswell as some of the big US ones. I dont currently have Boxnation due to the fact there is very little British shows this new deal doesnt make it anymore attractive unless they do start producing good weekly domestic shows....the other thing though I cant stand Bunce so that doesnt help much! lol
Very possible these promoters aren't getting much in the way of fees, the TV outlet itself is such a boost to them.
When has balancing the books been important in sport? 90% of Premier League clubs are operating in vast and ever increasing debt. Certain sports, at the highest level will always be subsidised because enough people enjoy them SO much :good
