    I'm not defending Arum, nor making excuses for him, I'm just stating what happened. Ask yourself this, why wouldn't any promoter want to have made Mayweather - Pacquiao in 2008-2010? the public was drooling over that potential mega fight. I find it hard to believe that any promoter didn't want to make that fight. He might have been discouraged because FMJ kept holding the fact that Pac was a Arum fighter against him and that presented a bottleneck to negotiations.

    It's lame that for a fight of this magnitude Mayweather needed a catchweight to fight Canelo when he holds a title at that weight, fought there before and made a big deal about no catchweights.

    The fans were talking about a potential mega fight long before the official negotiations actually started. It seems like you are just arguing for argument's sake.

    Ok, in a fighthype video interview today, Ellerbe claimed that it was Canelo's Management that were the ones who asked for the catchweight.

    youtube --> watch?v=pLYwU3JGMBE

    He mentioned something about a video on boxing scene a few weeks prior to negotiations where Canelo's trainer offered the catchweight to them. has anyone found this video of Canelo's trainer saying this? All I can find is a boxing scene article dated May 8th saying that Canelo's team will not entertain the possibility of a catchweight.

    Has anyone found this video of Canelo's trainer making them this offer publically prior to negotiations with a catchweight offer? Then Ellerbe said "shame on them". Honestly guys, what is Ellerbe referencing? he said "you don't have to take my word for it, it's on boxing scene" and it was a couple weeks prior to negotiations. he said if the fans did they due dilegence they can find this for themelves. well I'm trying to find this video he is refering to of Canelo's trainer saying this.

    The thing I don't get is why in the world would Canelo's side want the fight at 152? it makes no sense, why would Canelo's side implement a penalty for coming in above 152? You have both sides on record saying it was the other side who wanted the catch weight. someone is lying but conventional logic points to Mayweather's side because he has much more to gain and Canelo has much more to lose with the catch weight. Can we please figure out which side is lying? Where is this boxing scene video Ellerbe is referencing?

    Lets not forget that the catchweight for Mayweather-Marquez was 144, and Mayweather came in at 146.

    Do you happen to remember what was the consequence for FMJ being two pounds over? Did he lose a portion of his purse?

    He paid 300,000 for each lb over. He paid 600,000 to Marquez. One has to assume he paid for an advantage.

    It was a year and a half ago, in 2011 lol. Canelo was asked and said passingly he would consider going down to 150. This was before FMJ fought Cotto at 154, when FMJ was fighting exclusively at 147. Ellerbe was asked about whether it was Canelo's comment in 2011 that made them consider the catchweight, and he said no, but rather it was a comment by Canelo's trainer a few weeks before negotiations he made on boxing scene. (which i can't find)

    The only thing i can find is a May 8th boxing scene article where Canelo's side say they were not willing to consider a catchweight. It's all smoke and mirrors coming from Ellerbe and Mayweather. They are trying to make it seem like Canelo's team came to him with the catchweight offer, but the facts just don't back that up. Why in the world would Canelo's side request a catchweight of 152 and a penalty of coming in over 152? Canelo's side is on record saying Floyd wouldn't fight unless there was a catchweight lmao.

    Floyd and Ellerbe are trying to spin this to make it look like Canelo's side wanted the catchweight. But that makes no sense, the naturally bigger guy would never want a catchweight penalty below the weight limit where he holds a title. The catch weight was obviously so that Floyd's side could drain Canelo so he wouldn't be as big. The way in which Ellerbe is lying about who wanted the catchweight is disingenuous. Their side wanted the catch weight, and they don't want to admit it because that would mean Floyd is a hypocrit. Sad, sad sad!!
