I have the Cleveland Plain Dealer. No long count is mentioned, though SRR was BADLY hurt and barely beat the count. He staggered to his feet.

Let's put it this way...if prime Zale and prime (well, as far as MW SRR goes) Robinson fought a series, which was typically how it went, both guys would pick up at least 1 W over the other.

If we are talking the very best SRR he wins. He just had all the tools to win and we are talking about him at his very best as a middleweight.....not on an off night. SRR by lopsided decision.

But that begs the question- what great MWs did Robinson beat by lopsided decision? What fight against what MW can we point to as the Exhibit A that supports the notion that SRR could win a lopsided decision vs. Zale?

Burt, you realize what Artie wrote there conflicts with the next day account from the writer in Canada you posted? It also conflicts with the other specific accounts which agree with the Canada poster as to Ray being up and badly hurt, but not including what he said about then pushing Artie back and giving Ray more time. So there are at least four specific accounts that don't agree with what Artie wrote and one of them gives Ray an additional nine seconds after he got up. There is a huge dif between he didn't get up to what would have been 17 seconds and he got up at 9 and was protected. This is what were calling non disputed facts? What facts, most of it totally contradicts the others.

H did better than a lopsided decision when he won the title from La Motta who many would call a great middleweight. La Morta had a better chin than Zale too. Undisputably so.

LaMotta was severely weight-weakened in that fight. And that fight definitely was NOT the story of their series. Whenever Jake was at his best he gave Ray hell.

Yes, Jake had a better chin. But Tony had a MUCH harder punch than LaMotta. By far.

T, pray tell me what writer from Canada I POSTED ? I quoted a Toledo newspaper column reporter named Dick McGeorge.....T, you believe what you WANT to believe...I quoted various sources saying that Ray Robinson after being dropped on his face by Artie Levine, had about 20 seconds to recover before Levine was allowed to resume the attack. I was around those days, my mom was friendly with Artie LeVien's aunt [LeVien, birth name], I read these accounts in the papers, boxing mags, heard it discussed at Stillman's gym, and I know it happened most assuredly.
Whether SRR was up at nine, OR he was on the floor til the referee walked Levine to a neutral corner is debatable, but SRR got a LONG count for sure...Why the hell would I fib and argue with posters all these days ?
Ray Robinson from the time he was dropped by Levine, HAD about 20 seconds before Levine was allowed to resume his attack....
And I believe fervently that if a fairly good fighter Artie Levine could have
a SRR out on his feet, the much superior pre WW2 Tony Zale, might very likely have finished the job. Ciao...
