Nobody cared about what he said about Cotto - Pac...until he demanded a catchweight for Canelo. Floyd flip flopped and now is being called out on it. You are a Floyd fan and of course are defending him. As far as "no excuses" go, that ship sailed when he wouldn't fight Canelo at 154 after making a big deal about it in his fight for Cotto. I'm not going to be making excuses, I just find the whole thing hilarious.

It's not that I don't like Floyd. He's just being a hypocrit here and lying to the fans about who needed the catchweight.

Floyd wants to have a 154 unification fight...at 152. It proves that he's cutting corners and doesn't want to fight Canelo at the normal weight class. It's a significant factor in the build up to this fight.

The catchweight is not the issue most fans have. It's the hypocrisy.

First of all, this whole rehydration discrepancy issue seems to be used to justify the catchweight. But it doesn't. First of all, we have no idea how much Canelo will rehydrate to. Against Trout, it was reported he weighed 172 on fight night. If that is accurate, then it's pretty amazing that someone could gain 19 pounds in less then 24 hours. We heard that it was because he was trying to be even bigger then usual since Trout was big as well. Mayweather isn't as big as Trout, so it's possible that this time Canelo would only rehydrate 10 or 15 pounds. We don't know for a fact that he would get up to 172 again. And even if he did, it's quite possible Mayweather would weigh around 160 or even higher fight night. So it is highly improbable that there would be a 20 pound difference fight night. it is more likely to be like 5-10 pounds depending on Mayweather. And if Mayweather doesn't rehydrate at all, he might be doing that intentionally. (it's his choice) coming in lighter might give him the speed advantage, and that could affect his speed and reflexes more then the average fighter.

Apparantly there were no unofficial same day weights for Maywaether Cotto (correct me if i'm wrong) so we don't know how much Mayweather rehydrated to from 150. These days a lot of people focus on same day weights, but once you make weight on the weigh in, you use the 24+ hours before the fight to give yourself energy and strength.

The issue is that Floyd Mayweather is cutting corners. He's not just fighting at Light Middleweight and trying to unify the division. If Canelo can't weigh in at 153 or 154, then it's really not a Light Middleweight Title fight, like all of Canelo's other LW title defenses. It's the hypocrisy, but in turn, it's also an over-zealous focus on Canelo's rehydrated weight used to justify this. (really just an excuse to not make the fight)

We keep hearing about no excuses, but yet this whole rehydration complaining, isn't that just one big excuse? back even before negotiations, April 21st, in this article below, it states that Mayweather called the Canelo bout an impossibility simply due to hearing about canelo's unofficial weight for Trout. Why isn't this seen as an "excuse" by Floyd? Certainly this should clear up the fact that it was Floyd's side that saw the bout as an impossibility specifically due to this unoffical weight. What if that unofficial weight of 172 was never announced? what if that weight isn't even accurate? we have no way to know. and ask yourself, do FMJ's unofficial fight night weights ever even get reported?

    boxingnews24.com/2013/04/canelo-weighed-172-lbs-for-trout-fight-mayweather-bout-out-of-the-question/

In this article, he says that Canelo would have a 25 lb advantage in the ring, which is a huge exaggeration. that's assuming Mayweather weighs in at 147 doesn't rehydrate at all himself, and that Canelo comes in at 172. in reality it's probably more like a 5-10 lb difference. Mayweather is free to gain 5 pounds and rehydrate 5 or 10 pounds himself!! But as the article says, the additional weight he put on for Cotto makes Mayweather bulky and slow and didn’t help his power any.

I mean look at his two fights at Jr Middle: DLH and Canelo. Those were two of Mayweather's closest fights. DLH was a Split decision, although it wasn't seen as that close, and many thought FMJ was hit more against Cotto then he's been in other fights. So FMJ is more slow and sluggish at Light Middleweight. and that's why he's worried about Canelo and had to implement this catchweight penalty.

It's because the Guerrero fight proved that FMJ can't make big PPV numbers himself. He needs a dance partner. Showtime basically demanded he fight Canelo so they won't lose money this time. And Floyd knew he had to do something to make Canelo smaller. I think this catchweight demand from FMJ highlights the fact that FMJ is not as good at Light Middle as he is at Welter. It is impressive that Floyd is able to fight at both weight classes, but in this fight he's not doing it fully. And to be honest, win lose or draw, I believe Floyd's greatness had a lot do with his ability to fight at 147 or 154 and fight the best. What he did against DLH was impressive. That was a faded but still very sharp DLH who probably outweighed him too.

For reference, does anyone have the unofficial fight night weights for DLH - Mayweather or Cotto - Mayweather?

do we even know the fight night weights for DLH - FMJ or Cotto - FMJ? are we supposed to believe that FMJ didn't rehydrate even a single pound?

    X2

This clowns ( Shadow ) credibility just went down the sewer. His argument about the hypocrisy might have held up, if he hadn't tried to downplay the fight night weights issue.

Ffs there is a You Tube video, of Mosley signing books in a bookshop openly telling people that when he weighed in at 147 he would be 160 in the ring. He also said that was nothing, compared to guys like Clottey, Baldomir, and Margarito who would be 170 by fight time, thus gaining over 20 pounds rehydrating.

To try to claim there won't be a huge difference in weight between Mayweather, and Canelo in the ring is simply ludicrous.

You're laughing because you know it's true. I am not claiming that there won't be a huge difference. I'm just claiming that it won't be 20 or 25 lbs!! we don't know what that difference will be, but that is a huge exaggeration, made harder by the fact that we don't know what Mayweather's unofficial weights were in the past, which I'm guessing is because he refuses to weigh in on the scales unofficially on fight night.

Assuming Mosley weighed in at 147 and would be 160 in the ring, then assuming Mayweather weights in at 150 against Canelo, then he might be 160 or more by fight night. Even if Canelo would come in at 170, that would only be 10 lbs, not 20 or 25 lbs!! Canelo might have weighed more then usual for Trout since Trout was a big man himself.

The clowns are the ones who are defending Mayweather. FMJ was making excuses before the negotiations even started, saying Canelo's rehydration made the fight an impossibility. what if Trout said "you know what, Canelo rehydrates too much, and for that reason it's too much of a risk to fight him". people then would say he was ducking Canelo or finding an excuse not to fight him. But since it's FMJ, you're acting like it's perfectly normal.

He is a joke poster clearly. He was 150 on fight night vs Ortiz FFS and apparently he was below 150 the night of the Cotto fight because he had a cold.

This is news to me. Is it accurate to say that FMJ has refused to weigh on the unofficial scales? You say "apparantly he was below 150". is this what he told the media? FMJ also told the media that Canelo wanted the catchweight, so how are we supposed to believe that he was below 150 for Cotto?

You're saying he lost weight between the weigh in for Cotto and the fight? If this is the case, wouldn't you say that is highly uncommon? Most boxers rehydrate 5-10 lbs after the weigh in. If Floyd doesn't, then you have to ask yourself why that is. And why is he penalizing Canelo for doing what he is allowed to do simply because FMJ apparantly doesn't rehydrate?

turbotime, you call me a joke poster, but you are in complete denial of FMJ's antics. Back in April, why did he make comments about Canelo's fight night weight? why was it such a problem? "no excuses" right? well that's an excuse, and you know what, that "excuse" led to this whole catchweight extravaganza. I don't even know how it is humanly possible to gain 20 lbs in 24 hours. if Canelo is walking around in the 160s then he must really have to struggle to make 154. But you don't hear Canelo making excuses. Instead it's FMJ making excuses since for some reason he don't rehydrate. But Canelo was the one who wanted the catchweight.
