Quite a confusing fighter. He fights everyone. Has his ups and downs. Never gives up in his fights. Has some big wins (Ortiz). Is a victim of robberies (Vargas). Yet continues to fight on with heart, readiness that is unknown modern day.

    This guy is weird. :nut

Coming off two (respectable) losses what do you think he can accomplish in our sport?

Can't say a part of you isn't a fan of this guy. :good

I am a huge fan of his, Riverside Rocky is the truth.

I think his future is at 147, he can go on to get a title, (if he is carefully matched.) The issue is that he is co-promoted outside of Golden Boy, so Golden Boy has little interest in seeing him excel...that is why he is matched up and handled the way he has been.

Better matchmaking he "can' go far.

    Confusing and weird how? :huh

He is actually perhaps the most consistent guy in the sport today as far as what he brings. (like you said, an honest lunch-pail work ethic, tons of heart, and enough talent and skill to hang with the elite and sometimes beat those on the very next tier down, while himself being maybe 3rd)

Isn't he with Thompson Boxing Promotions as well? :think They are decent, I suppose, but can't always provide the biggest fights or television exposure. Maybe he can headline one of their smaller shows, grab a "booster" win to rebound and maybe fight one of Golden Boy's guys. We could see an Ortiz rematch? That would bring a good fight and fun show. Maybe a Malignaggi fight? A good boxer/brawler battle of experienced contenders. Berto fight? Maybe. Berto can make a good style to match with and a thriller for the fans. Cano? Mexican fringe contender. A winnable fight for Lopez and a surefire slugfest.

It's all there, really! Whatcha think?

If anything he should walk out to "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. :yep

    Total WYSIWYG fighter.

I was being sarcastic. :yep Fighters like him don't exist nowadays. He takes fights as they are offered. As you said he holds a tremendous work ethic and is willfully doing all he can to be a world class athlete and a family man. You must respect all of that from Josesito Lopez. It makes you root for him. Uncommon breed.

That was even before that absolute war against Maidana! Yeah, he's always counted out whether it be on FNF against a young kid or on an HBO/Showtime main event against an elite level boxer. He doesn't back down. He doesn't quit. If he did? He'd be lucky to be a journeyman. So, yeah, you got to respect that man. Someone considered to have such limited ability can push himself so far. It's more impressive than greats that sell themselves short.

Absolutely, he is a perfect example of someone who elevated himself from possibly being a no-name to being a well-known fan fave based solely on his mindset and intangibles.

He should be an iconic figure, really. If all people were guided by his mindset we'd have a much more ambitious and overall productive world. Must wish Lopez the best in his career in and out of the ring. :good

josesito lopez is in all likelihood done.

looking back, I cant remember a fighter who was in three consecutive wars and knocked out in two of them and continued to compete at a high level.

Riddick bowe comes to mind(he was on his way to being kod by golata twice) and he was finished. once you start suffering consecutive concussions you are more susceptible to others in the future.

unfortunately there is no money behind josesitio so he wont have a rebuilding career(vargas post dlh) and will probably be fed to an up-and-comer like kell brook or keith Thurman to be made to look good and suffer even more punishment.

its too bad because if josesito was properly managed he may have had a career similar to yory boy campas.

I like Lopez, but he really needs a break. Three evil wars in a row can ruin a fighter fast. I think of it as Freddie Mills syndrome. Even the toughest fighter can only take a certain amount of anguish before he implodes. Once a guy passes that threshold there's no going back. It happened to Mills, to Frank Fletcher, most recently to Miguel Cotto, and Lopez is in danger of imploding as well.

I like his attitude and the way he approaches the game since it doesn't matter who he's fighting he just want's to fight. I think his problem is he get's to caught of the moment inside the right especially when there's an exchange of punches and always likes a good brawl. I say he take on a lesser opponent and build himself back up because at this rate he won't be able to beat any top ten WW in his division the way he keeps fighting.

I admire him greatly. But I just don't think he has the skills to have much future in the sport at a competitive 140/147 weight class. His best win was Ortiz, for whom he was a huge underdog, and he was behind on the scorecards at the time he broke Ortiz's jaw. He has a name from that fight but is seen as a relatively low risk - high reward for guys like Maidana and Canelo. I hope I'm wrong.
