I think Murray is a dark horse and beats Macklin after the beating he got at the weekend and I think he would break Barker down.

Dont forget Andy Lee, he could still put on good fights with these guys (presuming his last one was a once off!)

When he fought Wayne El**** there wasn't a hint of Irishness in the arena. I couldn't care less how he markets himself, but let's see it for what it is rather than a homage to his roots.

Not his trademark Green shorts, Brian Peters or both of his Irish parents (which is actually remarked upon in the commentary) were present then ?

Did you want his nationality rammed down your throat or something ?

Let's just say it wasn't quite as obvious as it was in subsequent fights.

Yeah, that's why he played and won a U19 Hurling title with Tipperary. And was planning on moving to Killarney before turning pro.

Is that the only reason people celebrate their Irish heritage? It seems to be the only reason Brit's can think of. Just so he can sell a few tickets? What about people who aren't pro sports men/women that celebrate their Irish heritage?

    ****in pathetic!

^this. I'm an Irish brummie (born here, still live here) myself. Both sides of my family are Irish therefore I am Irish. Am I British? Yes. Am I English? No.

Please please spare us this argument again, no one really gives a **** where macklin comes from and the vast majority of real boxing fans follow fighters based on their style and personality and totally disregard nationality. Marquez is one of my favourite fighters and doesn't even speak English.

It's just a handful of people that perhaps get over patriotic and want to bring this up constantly we've covered this with macklin numerous times before as well as fury and Steve Collins not being British etc. It's a matter of opinion and anyone can be where they want to be from as far as I'm concerned if it makes them happier, trying to ram flags on a boxer is just stupid.

Just one thing, in who's opinion is Steve Collins British? If you had of just said Macklin and Fury, then fair enough but Collins is from Cabra, Dublin and has never represented Britain.

Collins and McGuigan often get lumped in as British by some people on ESB, i think more due to lack of geographical knowledge than anything else, then we have this rhetorical conversation that usually turns into boring nationalistic chest beating and finger pointing and accusations, its tiresome.

I know McGuigan has been mentioned but Collins? I know he gets thrown in the same breath as Eubank and Benn but haven't heard him being mentioned as a Brit. Ah well. Aswell, McGuigan is from the republic.

Why do people have such a problem with people born in england that dont want to be british/english and instead they call themselves irish.

I find it bizarre that people get so worked up about this.

Macklin is a proud irishman! Good on him..

He is a *****. He changed the minute he realised it would make him more money.

    Simple as that.
