Why did he duck Willis? Willis had no chance he couldn't even KO Firpo who jacked brutalized in 2 and its FACT his promoter drew the color line not Dempsey. Unless you've Jack Dempsey saying it himself that he ducked Willis, you just continually keep showing your agenda against him. And as for Jack ducking Greb? Whats the big deal? Has no other HW champion ducked ONE man before? Why didn't he duck Tunney?? He was just as good.. The current champion doesn't even want to fight top 10 fighters.. Jack has his legacy without Greb, only someone like yourself would care

Excellent. I have quoted contemporary newspaper and court records of Dempsey, along with works by respected boxing writers, and this braintrust has come up with name calling. How telling is that.

SP claims the duck of Wills was no big deal because a 35 year old Wills did not KO Firpo... That is an absolutely laughable, as Wills had already been the number one challenger for the title for five or so years. Rather than listen to me, why don't we look at contemporary accounts of Wills who unanimously claim that the Dempsey trust was avoiding Wills and merely playing games when making contracts with no intention of fulfilling them. Do I have to post these? I will gladly take the time if no one has read these readily available and well-circulated documents.

Do I think Dempsey was a coward? Absolutely not. He was a hard nut who came up the hard way. He was also a talented fighter and a hellacious puncher who would be outstanding in any era. However, with the machinations of Rickard and Kearns, he was well contrived commercial entity whose main purpose was to retain the earning potential that came with the title. Low risk, high reward was the rule of his reign. I am not so naive as to believe that to some degree this happens with all champs. However, Dempsey's reign was egregious in this regard. Counter to it Tyson's reign of terror in unifying the belts. The frequency of his fights combined with the caliber of opponents in a scant 3 years far overshadows what Dempsey did over 8 years, choosing the likes of Brennan, Miske, Darcy, Carpentier and Firpo.

 

tyson would destroy and humiliate dempsey in a single round.. and i am not joking.. dempsey did not have the body and weight to compete with tyson. dempsey was very aggressive but tyson too, it is a pitbull vs a lion, no fight here.

 

Tyson by KO, mid-late rounds... I'd say by round 9 for sure. Dempsey has a few moments and after the fight Tyson praises Dempsey and says that he is the baddest motherfvcker he ever faced... even though he pretty much dominated the fight. He tells Dempsey, "I love you man" and gives him a hug and a kiss. Crazy things fighters say and do... like DeLaHoya saying Gatti was the hardest puncher he ever faced.

 

All you posted was a link to Randy Roberts book on Dempsey. His girl was a hooker before he meet her? Was he found guilty or not guilty??? and unless you have actual proof rather then word of mouth you have nothing to suggest he ducked Wills. Coley Wallace went to his grave saying he beat up Marciano in the amatuers when he never did.

Since when is age a factor? Seeing as you compare everything to modern standards then age isn't a factor as evident by modern champions. Willis couldn't even KO Firpo lol Jack did it in 2

No boxing scholar worth his salt holds the Firpo defeat against Wills. You would certainly be the first if you consider yourself a student of the game at all.
