Joe's chin wasn't weak, it was decent. He could hold a shot. Would you say Haye has a weak chin because Ruiz and Barrett wobbled him? So did Mormeck.
Foreman would have ****ing killed him!

The best punchers Frazier didn't face during his championship prime were Leotis Martin, who would have fought Joe had he not sustained a career ending torn retina against Liston, and Mac Foster, who got eliminated by Jerry Quarry. By the time Shavers and Lyle became contenders, Frazier was no longer champion. [Leotis may well have made the inaugural defense of the NABF HW Title against Foreman. Moving and boxing to bide his time in a scheduled 15 rounder, Leotis may have had an excellent chance to successfully replicate the Liston template against an inexperienced George with the late round power he used to lay Sonny out. I think Foreman and his brain trust would more likely have avoided Leotis as assiduously as they avoided Jerry Quarry though, especially after seeing Liston face planted like that.]

For whatever it's worth, an utterly shot Joe remained upright longer in his rematch with George than anybody else Foreman defeated during the 1970s after Peralta. Frazier stood up to some deadly blows in the four rounds leading up to the fatal fifth, and got himself out of several tight spots in a rematch where the three knockdown rule was in effect. Over 20 pounds above his best weight, he did better than Chuvalo had, and produced his best result in closing the fourth with a smacking hook off the ropes.

Bonavena did not come close to dropping him in their rematch over 15, nor did Ellis [who previously decked Ringo twice, stopped Leotis, and landed solid rights on Joe over the first three rounds in 1970].

Norton was a far slower starter, and with a vastly more susceptible chin than Frazier, getting decked by considerably more than two different opponents in three bouts.

Jumbo Cummings knocked Bruno silly with a single shot, and only the bell instantly ending round one saved Frank from an ignominious starching upset. Cummings never came close to doing this to an old, fat and rusty Frazier, despite landing numerous hard shots on Joe.

Tommo Frazier and Norton didn't fight because they were friends. Cleveland Williams was washed up. There was never any out cry for Frazier to fight Mac Foster or Ernie Shavers. Liston was also past his prime when Frazier was on his way up.

Gentleman Jim Archie Moore started his career at middle weight and stayed there for 10 years and only moved up to light heavyweight because he couldn't get a tittle. Wow Archie Moore has a lot of KOs? Because he had so many fights moron and he fought alot of stiffs in his career too. But I am used to brain dead idiots like you trying to make excuses for Marciano.

Since ******ed people of this Forum keep pretending in their little minds that Marciano is a real heavyweight then how many of you believe Roy Jones Jr could move up to heavyweight and knock down Frazier with one punch? Not happening .

How many people believe a 40 year old Roy Jones Jr could go 8 or 9 rounds with a prime a Frazier?

Frazier's chin isn't Oliver McCall great but it is pretty decent and a hell of alot better than Marciano's.

 

:rofl foreman bombed out norton like an insect, and frazier got up once and again. frazier took more shots than norton, he was easier to hit because he was a swarmer, a pressure fighter, i t is why he got more hurt against ali, because ali could hit him much more than he did against norton. frazier had a much better chin than norton

yes, marciano´s chin looked better because he faced little men, even a 40 years old former mw-lhw archie moorer knocked him down, and bob foster could not even hurt frazier... it is the real proof, frazier had clearly a better chin than marciano.

 

Not only did Bob Foster not hurt Frazier, Frazier didn't take 8 or 9 pounds to get him out of there.

 

He defense was better. Ali didnt get as many clean shots at Norton as opposed to Frazier. If Ali were able to pepper Kenny Norton the way he did Joe than I dont see Norton lasting as long.

 

Mr. Kemp..let's not go into name calling when trying to make a point. I'm not claiming that Marciano had the best chin in the world but I wouldn't call it weak either. My point was that Archie Moore could punch. True that when you have as many fights as Moore did you're going to fight your fair share of tomato cans along the way. But not all of Moore's opponents were tomato cans. If he was feather fisted it wouldn't matter how many fights he had...He wouldn't hold the record for number of career KO's. But he does which says something. Let's debate like gentleman shall we?

 

Jim and I am telling you Archie Moore was a blown up middleweight and no middle weight could or would knock Joe Frazier down with one punch. I don't care how hard Moore punched as a middleweight if Marciano had this "Iron" chin like his little fan boys tell you then he wouldn't have been dropped by a 40 year old blown up middleweight like Archie Moore.

Again Moore doesn't have the highest KO percentage he just fought so many damn times and against so many stiffs. So he has the most KO's.

 

What? His chin is weak because he was dropped by Moore then got up straight away and resumed the fight? If his chin was weak Moore would have gone in for the kill. Moore caught him with a punch that he never saw coming and put him off balance.

 

Shawn...I agree with you in the fact that marciano didn't have an iron chin. I said he had a good chin. Add to that his stamina and mental toughness and you have a tough man to beat. Now moore may have started out as a MW but he filled out as he got older. For his fight with Marciano he was actually the bigger man. His upper body was bigger than Rocky's without any fat either. Sort of like James Toney when he fought Evander Holyfield. Toney started out as a MW but for his fight with Holyfield he was a solid 210lbs if I remember correctly and looked to be in good shape. Forgive me if my spelling is a little off. I'm on my 3rd Sam Adams after a long day of moving furniture. Anyway, I don't disagree completely with you. You raise some good points and that's the good thing about this site. Debating those points with other fight fans. But in the end it's only speculation and educated guessing.
