Not since James Toney have I seen a boxer look as comfortable and confident in the ring as Golovkin. Coincidence that they both have iron chins and great power? Golovkin's poise is astounding.
Yes, and they are also equally comfortable giving interviews in English...possibly even a slight edge to Golovkin in that department.
The chin is too early (when G goes up to HW and still can't get KO'd, then we can talk). The poise I agree.
...and that concludes anything they have in common, besides both being middleweight champs. One nitpick... Toney did have good power early on in his "Lights Out" days - not Golovkin power. :nono
Toney had something like 90%+ KO ratio in his am days. He is very naturally heavy handed. I would certainly give an edge to GGG, but before Toney moved up he had scary power.
Golovkin is no Toney whatsoever, but let's not pretend he is some plodding slugger with no D. By today's championship standards his is actually quite good.
GG has good defense as well, nowhere near the slicknes of Toney, of course, but he uses his feet and upper body movement to great extent, and it's actually very difficult to hit him with a decent shot
Its hard to imagine prime GGG going life and death with Dave Tiberi, Sosa, and Sanderline Williams :roflatsch
Don't know about certifying GGG's chin as iron yet... It stood up to some Proksa lunges, Ishida jabs, and I think Macklin landed a good two punches in that fight. Hardly worthy of crediting as iron. It does look very solid, though. Potentially iron if it ever stands up to some punches from a couple more top 10 opponents.
