Anyone feel BAD for Price? Seems sad to me. His profession, CAREER, the way he is supposed to feed his family, was by boxing. He has been training for years to become a GREAT BOXER. He could not beat a gatekeeper in Thompson, then he will not go very far. Probably never reach elite level or money. And he is young also. It must suck in that the career he chose, he is not very good at. Must be damn tough.
A guy making the self proclaimed "I'm the next World champion" getting humbled like the second rate boxer he is by a professional throughout? No, none whatsoever. I'm glad the American kicked his ass tonight.
Also for the record, due to his popularity in Liverpool and his last few fights drawing 10k fans, not to mention his T.V deals and sponsorship he's probably already a millionaire. I'd not feel to sorry for him.
Yeah I do feel bad for the guy. He seems decent and these losses must have been heartbreaking. Being hyped as the next Lennox Lewis and then losing twice by bad knockouts in front of a home town must be a devastating blow to the man. He can probably still compete at the domestic level and really he has nothing to be ashamed of, but for an athlete of his ability and ambition the revelation that he'll almost certainly never be world class must be really rough to deal with.
It breaks my heart to see a guy with such potential go down because of a fluke punch. Thompson landed nothing but lucky punches and now Price's career is in tatters because of lady luck.
There's no way he's a millionaire. People have this notion that guys make huge purses once they flirt with contender status. If people knew how little money guys, even world champions, make, they'd probably show fighters a lot more respect. From what I recall James Toney only made like 350,000 dollars against John Ruiz. There's no way Price has made millions for fighting Tony Thompson and John McDermott.
Sponsorship, numerous hype videos, and Frank Malony has already made him a millionaire. this isn't a club boxer, he's been on T.v, who also pay for showing his fights. He's also got rights to his fights after he retires. He's not a mega millionaire like Floyd, but I'd say quite comfortably Price is worth about 2 million.
Price earned 6 figures in his last three fights. Add them up, it breaks 1 million, plus sponsorships, etc.. roughly 2 million.
You may be right, but until I see proof actual numbers I won't take it on a hunch that a boxer is being overpaid. Even HBO/Showtime headliners will only walk away from a big fight with five figures, before taxes, before paying trainers, managers etc. And sponsorships add up to peanuts. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe promoters are less greedy in Britain.
He made more money than his skill should have allowed for. No, I don't feel bad for him at all... other than the brain damage caused from that savage, inhuman, greatest KO of all time, rocked me across the ocean glancing blow to the jaw from the first fight.
I like price and he must feel crap about tonight, but don't feel sorry for him, he has earned more than most of the people who pay to watch him will earn in a life time, he will survive.
Yeah a flurry of lucky punches from the 3 to 5th round. Im sure you're being ironic but there will be some deluded brits that the two fights were some fluke that all price needs is some tweaking. I do feel sorry for him though he isn;t your average loud mouth HW talking himself up at every chance he gets. But maybe that lack of belief or over confidence was missing in his game which became his downfall. All you could see in his eyes was fear. The only good choice he made last night was having james brown song for his ring intro
