Referee Price/Thompson...

Some of our refs wouldn't have allowed Thompson to continue after the knockdown. So praise the ref for allowing us a fight for a change!

Fighters should normally be given the full 10 count to get back up, or mandatory 8 count of a standing fighter, and assessed after that, and that doesn't always happen in a British ring.

I don't think we have "standing counts" in our rules anymore? So the ref would have to justify it as the fighter being kept up by the ropes.

Yeah, a wiser boxer would have taken a knee at that point. Just to try and regain some composure.

Bruno did hold when he was getting hit. He got several warnings for it against Tyson. I think he may have even been deducted a point. You make a good point though. :good

Price was lying over the ropes being held up from falling over. It wasn't a standing 8 count.

Price had turned his head away from Thompson and was not intelligently defending or throwing back. The ref gave Price every chance to stay in the fight so there may have been a little bit of bias there. Price didn't want anymore in the end, he took a lot of unanswered shots.

Price has a big mountain to climb now. He needs a new trainer I reckon. He couldn't use his size and reach to hold off Thompson. Without sorting out the fundamentals he stays domestic level.

 

Clearly he wouldn't have given a count when roles were reversed, it's one of them obvious hometown perks we see in boxing every time.

At least he stopped the fight before Price got seriously hurt.

 

Yep, and there is a justification for saying Price was being 'kept up' by the ropes.

As mentioned, by model four or five, the Bomber had learnt to cling on for dear life...

 

I don't think fighters should get a standing count. It should be within the fighters discretion to take a knee if he needs to recover or if he thinks the ref may stop it. If he is too hurt to make a decision to fight back, take a knee etc then he probably should be stopped.

 

But I think the ref here has an escape, in that Price was trapped unable to take a knee without falling out the ring or into Thompson.

 

He gave him ever chance. I thought Price would have at least said to him self "**** it" and try throw one more right hand.

 

Price hasproven he is not world class.Fair enough.Now he has to prove he is domestic level,which is a problem with guys like Fury,Haye and Chisora still hanging around.
The future does not look good for Price other than another beating and a payday.

 

He wasn't being held up by the ropes, he was on his own two feet.

The case that can be best made is that the ropes kept him in the ring, as he was trying to climb over them to get away from TT.
