And what then? Taking 24m worth of losses a year for the next 2 years? They've made bad investments before, with washed up Tyson, that took a while to recover from. They may be able to recover from this slowly, but surely GBP is toast

Dude you obviously have a computer, look up GBP, and you will see, they have WAY MORE top fighters than Top rank. HBO is in trouble and they know it. How many rematches can HBO broadcast before the fans want to see something new? If Top rank has 3 guys at 147 how many fights can they make? NONE all of them have fought each other already. Nothing left to do but rematch over and over, like they have been doing,Didn't you say something about Marquez vs Pac 5? Or do you not see a pattern?

And once again you're unwittingly proving my point. GBP has a big and expensive roster. They are banned from HBO, and Showtime's budget is not enough to support them even in the best of times, much less if you're losing 24m for the next 2 years. So they'll have to start contracting. How fast, depends on how distastrous the Floyd deal ends up being. If they survive, they'll be overtaken by some of the second rank promoters doing business with HBO now.

How is showtimes budget less than HBO? They have a fight almost every week. You seem to think that Mayweather is the only fighter that showtime intends to work with. Look at the schedule, showtime has some good fights coming this year and has had a few already.

Their budget is already set for this year, hence "annual budget". That's what allowed them to pay 2.5m for a 14-1 mismatch in Broner Paulie after taking that massive ppv hit, the pain is deferred. To be fair, the Broner fight did good number, but barely better than the GGG fight, which cost 4x less. By comparison, Showtime's cheap cards, like the excellent Maidana Lopez got a pathetic 500k viewers.

    There's lessons here:

    1. Don't run afoul of America's #1 boxing network
    2. Don't get roped into outrageous multiyear guarantees with old star
    3. Paying 4x as much for same results as your rival = bad business

I guess we will have to wait and see, I think you are wrong but, I will admit the jury is still out. I think Floyd will do well on his last 4. Maybe, Matthaysse,Khan,Garcia, maybe finish with another at 154. NBut we will revisit this topic after sept 14th When the numbers come in for the fight.

No doubt that will be a big success, but they're basically putting all their eggs in one basket by having to bring in Canelo so early. It'll be a very expensive card, especially if they put on Garcia Matthysse (super pricy undercard), huge promotion, they'll do well to make up the losses from Guerrero. But then what? Canelo rematches? All those other guys will do very well to break even, if this is 1.1m buys. But we'll see, maybe the Canelo fight reverses the momentum in a major way, or maybe a rematch is viable and huge.

    Lester Proctor knows all...

My guess is in 5 years your claims will not come to fruition and your opinions/predictions of the future will be wrong.

    1.7 million PPV buys = a loss.

We see all kinds of crazy predictions on message boards. Mine are at least grounded in reality, I give reasons. Could be wrong as any prediction. But seems to be a fresh angle around here, even if I have to overdo it a bit.

I don't know if GBP will have to contract any time soon, but I do think their near monopoly on top US talent will cease, due to more open dates/budget at HBO, not necessarily with Top Rank

Even 1.7m is a failure with a guarantee high enough, right? You just need to be losing money on it. Not that I think they'll lose on this one, even they are not that incompetent.
