Did Foreman's chin improve with age. Why did Ali drop him but not Holy or Moorer?

I think his chin did improve with age, because his bulk and physical strength improved with age.

During his absence, he developed a double chin, and actually went to the gym to perform dedicated exercises specifically targeted just to get rid of it, without success. He discussed this in a fitness column he co-wrote in alternating weeks with Florence Griffith-Joyner in the 1990s for the Parade Magazine weekend newspaper inserts, addressing the complaints of a tall young guy weighing 130 pounds who had this problem. I clipped and copied it for a lanky girlfriend of my sister's who had the exact same complaint.

Those spot conditioning resistance exercises may not have gotten rid of George's double chin during his hiatus, but they certainly targeted a localized portion of his anatomy which could have paid some dividends later when he returned to action so far as enhancing his ability to take a punch.

Later, when he resumed his career, he lifted weights, something he did not do in his teens and 20s. He wrote that one day, he happened to look in the mirror and discovered that the resulting increase in muscle mass had caused his double chin to disappear as an unexpected side-effect.

He was always strong, and could always take a good shot, but he was much stronger during his 40s. During his first career, he'd eschew fluids the day before a match to dry out [a common practice espoused by published authorities like Edwin Haislet]. During his second career I don't believe Foreman did that [you'd have to ask him to be sure]. Better hydration means better shock absorbancy for the head and brain, hence improved punch resistance.

Speed and reflexes can diminish with age [sometimes rapidly], and legs are usually the first to go, but physical strength can actually peak during the 40s, especially in the naturally strong with proper training. [That's assuming good health, and winning the lottery with respect to things like the avoidance of arthritis, a scourge of many aging boxers, like Frazier and Braddock.]

I believe he was in the best shape he could get himself into and its possible he was stronger in his 40's....but what he did at 45 is nothin short of a miracle...But I completely agree with you...in his book he compares his workout from the 70's to getting back into in the 90's...its apples and oranges my man..

I cannot sincerely believe, that Foreman was the only fighter in boxing history who was more durable at the age of 45 , than at 25!

    He simply wasn’t.

The fact that the heavyweights of the 90s failed to dent his chin, while those of every previous era, decisively closed the previous era, should be taken as a qualified but tangible mark against the 90s as an era!

Foremans chin was no better as he got older and its foolish hogwash to say it was.

Old george got hit lots of times and did not go over. why? because he never picked the most dangerous heavyweights to fight. second time around he could have fought Lewis,Ruddock, Bruno, Bowe, McCall, Mercer etc etc but he did find lots of lightheavyweights and cruisers.
About the most dangerous HW old george fought was the retired Cooney.

Another reson why he appeared more durable was second time around around George knew he was slower and therefore threw less punches in sequence since any old pro knows the best way to get iced is when you are unloading. And finaly nobody has remarked that young george only went over when he was exhausted.

So in breif Old George knew that in order to not get knocked down he needed to not fight the biggest, toughest opponents, avoid getting exhausted and avoid exchanging blows -and that is exactly what Old Man Foreman did. He worked with what he had and did an excelent job.

Nothing to do with being bigger or stronger than before.

Ali punched harder than anyone foreman fought in the 90s. Holyfield and Moorer are not featherfist or nothing, but Ali hit harder, especially when he plodded down and cut the dancing. Ali was 6'3 218 pounds of almost all muscle. He was just naturally stronger than Holyfield or Moorer or any of the guys around then. You have to bear in mind, Ali regularly cut guys open, or swelled guys eyes shut with jabs. To put it in perspective, Ali was taller, weighed more and punched faster than mike tyson. Knockout power is a function of f(x)= acceleration x mass. And none of the guys Foreman fought had a fraction of the speed of Ali.

foreman's defense was way better when he was older, and he was much more relaxed. when he was young his offense was his defense. had foreman kept boxing when he was young with poor defense and wild swings, he would have been knocked down more. when he aged he smarten up and learned to relax.
