Danny Garcia agrees to face Matthysse on "The One" undercard

Let's not get carried away here. It used to be there was a time when you'd have three or maybe even four top-calibre fights on a PPV card in the eighties and 90s for the standard price tag. At some point along the way, the standards in quality/quantity of undercards started to drop but the Powers That Be realized the main even alone would carry the numbers. If boxing fans were less inclined to jump at every sub-par PPV event that gets pushed to us, we would get better quality and more stacked fights.

 

People gotta give Danny props, a lot of people were calling him a coward and such on here recently saying he'd duck the fight, he's a proud kid, it was clear he was gonna take the fight.

I think Floyd fights the winner next May.

 

What a great card should be a excellent night of boxing.

 

That simply isn't true. Boxing was also less of a niche sport in those days. Nobody is going to make profit worth the hassle putting on 80's style PPV cards. Even if you halved the price, buy rates won't change too much. Boxing is fringe. We just have to finally accept and deal with that, because it probably won't change in our lifetime.
