How is he not a plodder, John? Is Marciano light on his feet with good foot speed? No, he isn't. The bottom line is, Marciano has no way of avoiding Tua's power and, no, he's not going to take that power well at all. Marciano is going to be right in front of Tua, trying to slug it out. It's not going to work.
Your implication, r, was that Rocky was a ham-n'-egger. Wished you'd seen him live. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Rocky started doing calisthenic and his famous hill running when he was 10,he's going to be a solid teenager.
Rocky overtrained thats how he was lighter as he got older. By comparison to what is considered normal today all fighters over trained. Profesionals in those days kept their weight down as the amateurs still do. Professional boxing was contested between younger boxers with more fights, the pace was still high even if the rounds were longer than amateur bouts. When Tua was an amateur he also had to keep his weight down but in the pro's having to compete at a slower pace for extra rounds against an increasingly slower and heavier division he began to train like the rest of the modern heavyweights. At 201lb Tua was not as trim as Marciano would have been at 190lb. You could argue Tua could have been even less. It all proves that with simular training there was not much between them physically.
This is not a scenario where Tua will be out-slicked by some crafty boxer (Byrd), or kept from getting close to his man all night (Lewis)... no, this will be like 2 freight trains colliding. A simple test of strength/power with no stylistic advantage to either man. Listen, I admire Rocky as much as the next guy... but how on earth can anyone believe, he will survive for long in this fantasy match-up? What's he gonna do? Can you honestly see him give away 40 lbs to as hard-hitting and durable an opponent like Tua, and just pound him into submission? I find this highly unlikely. I'll take Tua by ko inside 5 rounds.
Then why call him a fool? Tua didn't eat his way up to 245lbs, and lets be honest Tommo thats the picture you have in your head of him.
Proof positive that the remaining folks on this thread don't know ****-all about breaking down styles. Tua liked his targets in stasis; Marciano could and would attack moving targets. That is the crux here. Would Tua catch Marciano in a corner, on the roper or in his low, slow bob or would Marciano's non stop barrage, from all angles and positions. weaken and dishearten Tua. At least frame the question properly.
Absolute and utter horse****. Marciano had 4 fights under 180 lbs at 25-26 years of age. Marciano was fat at 200 lbs, whereas as Tua was as thin as he could be. Tua is naturally more massively built than Marciano, it's genetic. Look at his calves, for example. No matter what Marciano did, he would never have calves like that.
