Anybody who got selby drawing or losing can they explain themselves

  1. Lee selby for 6 rounds gave a masterful example of hit and not be hit,I was especially impressed with his reactive defenceSecond half of the fight was closer with selby still generally the cleaner boxer but having 2 or 3 rounds where he seemed flustered due to the constant pressure and he was getting too easy to hit
It was a good performance that lee shouldn't let bother him like it seemed to,perfect experience for him first full 12 rounder whilst fighting at someone else's pace and having to fight off the back foot
So I came on here today and was stunned to see that some people think he got a gift, really unexpected.since when has blindly throwing shots that aren't hitting the target area meant point scoring,I can give him some credit for workrate and good work especially with the left hook in the last 3 rounds

I can't say I scored it as strictly as a judge would but I thought 116-112 was a fair card and wasn't influenced by the commentary as doubtless will be claimed

Can I hear the thoughts of the posters who thought simion should of had a share.i know boxing is subjective so I'm interested more than dumbfounded

He won no doubt but didn't impress like most thought he would so they probably scored it closer than it was

A lot of the rounds were hard to score because nothing was being landed. Scrappy low quality fight.

It was mainly a couple of twerps who have some kind of bee in their bonnet about Selby spouting that crap. If somebody wasn't impressed and feel Selby isn't up to much then that's fine and everyone has an opinion. Saying he got a gift and Simion drew/won the fight is another matter though.

Also, it was felt before the fight that Simion was a step up for Selby and so where people got it in their heads that Selby was going to walk straight through him I don't know. That's what worried me about this fight - it was slipping right under the radar in terms of its place on the bill but was always gonna be a tough scrap.

The guy was unbeaten and still something of unkown quantity, although anyone who'd seen Simion previously would've known he was going to be no pushover at the very least. So the unappealing scrappy stuff we saw was no surprise.

As you say Simion was limited but clearly a tough sod. Selby will have easier fights in future but get a lot more credit for them.

Selby won 7-5. Wasn't to impressed though. Selby didn't outclass him.

Selby beat a guy ranked higher than him. Yes it was a scrappy performance but it was a good win at european level imo.

Number 3 in WBC now i believe. The swagger boy will be back. People underestimate how good the other lad was. He was strong, willing and had some subtle skills defensively to take the power out of Lee's punches.

Listen it was a good win. For me a comfortable win although made to work harder then he ever has had at title level.

No one is saying the Romanian was rubbish people just felt it was a draw both are very good boxers,Jim watts criticism of the opponent was unjust and the scorecards were disgusting

Never 118-110 but Selby for me won the first 6 clearly & one if not two of the middle rounds.

Simion won the last three clearly not a draw but Selby won clearly for me.Think the one lopsided card was a joke the other two more than fair.

Good win for Selby moved up in class & won a scrappy fight two ways of looking at it I think he did a decent job.

I think it was alot closer than the cards suggested.

Simion was alot busier than Selby who was controlled for the most part but not throwing much, he was alot bigger and with a longer reach which he didnt fully take advantage of maybe down to inexperience.

Good learning fight at this stage for Selby still room for improvement definately needs to be busier as the earlier rounds could have gone either way purely on ring control and punch output.

I was actually shocked to see the punch stats when they showed them, cant remember the round or even if it was at the end but it showed Selby as having thrown alot more punches which was totally inaccurate and have no idea where it came from.

You can definetely make a case for Simion. He more or less domianted the second half of the fight and while Selby did good in the first half of the fight he certainly didn't domiante the first 6 rounds.Outside of round 7 you could say he didn't win a clear round the whole fight.
