The fight game is different now also, Boxers don't have 100+ fights. In this Era if a fighter has more than 5 losses he is considered washed up. If a fighter has Pac's record 54-5-2 That is 10% losses. Maybe 30 years ago that was OK when they fought 8 times a year. But now that is losing or at least not great. Joe calzagie was 49-0, I could put up several records of fighters in the last 20 years who finished with less than 10% losses.

 

Just a few things.

Hagler finished on a loss.

Pacquiao has lost 8% of his fights.

And Calzaghe finished on 46-0.

Both great fighters, both beat top fighters, but never met.

 

Th fact is both fighters lost something by not meeting each other. They both are to blame for it, and both of them have a ? in their legacy because of it. They are the best of their time in the same class they should have fought while they were both on top. Now we get to debate who would have won.

 

Mayweather, he did his best to take on the best possible. The same can't be said about Pacquiao. He's talanted, but he waisted it with all his chery picking.

 

I know what you mean. All this talk about Floyd ducking or cherry picking. Pac fought JMM 4 times. He renewed his contract with top rank, Knowing that it would keep him away from all the top fighters at 147 that fight for GBP. He could have went free agent, instead he lives behind a wall named Top rank.

I respect both of their careers and both of their careers deserve respect.

 

Both have brought great things to the sport. Respect both careers equally. Enjoyed Floyd's fights more. Watching Manny's fights are more of a dime in a dozen. Very common. But no one is like Floyd when it comes to taking an opponents best weapons and nullifying them. The pure look of cluelessness on his opponents face midway through a fight is just pure gold.

It still shocks me how no one ever seems to have a plan B when facing Floyd. They get so baffled by his skill level that they just mentally breakdown and pray for one perfect punch that never comes. It never gets old.
