Zou Shiming: on a collision course with disaster?

    Zou Shiming, why is a 1-0 pro getting this kind of attention? Has there been this kind of focus on a novice since DeLaHoya or Leonard?

    I have a feeling that he will be fighting for a pro title somewhere around his 10th or 11th fight. He may be a two-time Olympic champion, but the Guillermo Rigondeauxs of this world are few and far between.

    Most guys who stay at amateur for too long usually end up like Jorge Gonzalez. Most guys who get pushed into deep water too soon usually end up like Leon Spinks or Andrew Maynard.

    The powers-that-be need to take some of the spotlight away so that Shiming can make a smooth transition to facing true main event competition without undue pressure.

    Boxing history is littered with "can't miss" Olympians who didn't fulfill their perceived potential. I hope Zou doesn't end up added to that list.

    He is being used by Arum as a way into the Chinese market: he is something of a hero in China and with apopulation of 1.3mil, that equals potential for big money

    Huge market, but ease up on the guy. He can't help it he's a big draw in China and his last fight was his professional debut. Of course he looked a bit amatuerish but it was a fun fight to watch.
    I don't know if he's going to develop in to the fighter people think he already is but he'll develop

    i think you meant bil. and it was estimated that 300mil. watched his debut.

    ..and i also read somewhere that he's getting .5mil for his 2nd fight.

    I see him getting more professional as the days go by. I think hes stepping up his game to maintain his speed, get more professional and also try to leverage his shots.

    From what I see, he will do well. In the case of winning titles, we will have to see his chin and if his amateur style can translate into the professionals.

    The main issue Shiming has is that regardless of talent he's turned pro at 32 years old. He obviously hasn't taken much damage in his amateur career, but he's already likely past his athletic prime, and unless he's just the rare exception to the rule like B-Hop, he'll have to deal with diminishing capability in a fairly short period of time. Pretty much the earliest that can be reasonably expected that he'd fight for a title assuming everything goes well is in two years at the age of 34. So his window for greatness is likely very short.

    I was shocked by how bad he is best I can rank him is C class he won't go far but somehow has a huge fan base so I hope he proves me wrong but he wont he's really not that good at all.
