1) Is Joe Calzaghe not a challenge to Roy? But Ruiz was? Lolz 2) P4P rankings are all subjective. You only have to see today's P4P ranking with the likes of Broner in there to know I'm right about this. 3) Roy lost to Tarver twice afterwards. Was that due to Jone's weight issues and him being a shadow of the boxer he was? Lolz 4) Ruiz was impressive was he? How so? Having a record of 1-1-1 with a shot Holyfield? The same Holyfield Lewis destroyed in the 2 fights they had prior to him meeting the top Heavyweight contender John Ruiz? Lolz Ruiz himself was gifted that title. The title itself meant absolute zero as Lewis was regarded as the heavyweight champion of the World. Jone's tenure in the heavyweight division was laughable. He picked an easy opponent for a World title instead of fighting Calzaghe. He also ducked THE REAL LH champion at the time, Tarver was never that guy. Dariusz_Michalczewski was. You see the difference from Roy Jones to other all time greats who unify a division before leaving it? Jones never unified any division. 5) My post was borderline moronic? Sorry facts hurt your feelings sweetheart. xxx
Holyfield of 2000 onwards was not a great scalp. That would be like comparing Calzaghe's victory over Roy Jones after he was finished. Name recognition. Sure. Actual accomplishment. Sorry, there's none. Ruiz and Holyfield were only just in the top ten heavyweights during the time. Holyfield was probably not even in the top ten heavyweights. The Klits were around, Ike, Lewis, Byrd, Tua, Golota.
Holyfield in 2000 gave Lewis his toughest fight since McCall. Ruiz even hurt him more than Lennox did in 24 rounds, Holyfield gave Lewis a tougher fight than anyone would give him until Rahman stopped him. Saying Ruiz wasn't a challenge for Jones, a natural super middleweight is absolutely laughable.
Movoric actually give Lewis a better fight then Holyfield since McCall. There shouldn't even have been a rematch as Lewis clearly won the first fight. The 2nd fight Holyfield was more cautious, more defensive. He never had Lewis in trouble. He kept his cranium down and used it as a weapon. Lol Ruiz was an average Heavyweight boxer who got gifted a World title. I'm not denying Jone's feat of moving up in weights and beating guys not in his weight-class. It takes skill and balls to do that. I've got Jones' as my number 4 all time SMW so I do rate him. I just don't think he proved much by winning a paper title at a few weights when he refused to unify them. Middleweight and SMW Jones was very good. No doubt about that. The bigger weights, were cherry picks. Paper titles. He was never the man at those weights. Its debatable he was the man at SMW. Hence threads like these.
I don't consider Jones the man at SMW. I've already stated it's Calzaghe or Froch. The thing is Calzaghe didn't want to fight Jones and stated this clearly when Jones was in his prime. Calzaghe wanted to stay at his weight, and that was fine. Jones was being pressured badly to start fighting at heavyweight, if he moved down to fight Joe at that time, who was no one instead of moving to Heavyweight, he wouldve been crucified by the media.
Mind me asking why you have Froch as the number 1 or 2 GOAT SMW? I think Calzaghe is number 1, followed closely by Steve Collins, who fights similar to Calzaghe. That would have been one of the greatest fights in history if it went down.
I like Froch as a boxer. But being the greatest SMW ever? Hahhaha He lost to Dirrell, he would've lost to Taylor and he lost to Ward & Kessler.
His resume of fighters when he fought them is excellent. Bute (KO) Pascal (W) Dirrell (W) Kessler (1-1) Johnson (W) Abraham (W) Ward (Loss) Taylor (KO) And let's not forget he was picked to lose almost every one of these and he came out the winner more often then not.
If Ward unified LHW I'll be impressed. I don't think he's going to accomplish that after Cleverly is the man there. Cleverly will destroy Ward at 175lbs. Dawson was never that good. Cleverly is the real deal.
