There was chance that they could fight in 1986 check out video 15:45 https://www.you.tube.com/watch?v=87sAdIWWT_I take out dot would the result change? And why it did not happen?
Larry was done. He had 3 fights in 1985 with barely any rest. He had more of a chance in 88 than he would of had in 86.
Tyson was only going to fight Holmes if he was challenging Larry for the title. Mike was 8-0 when Michael Spinks upset Holmes in September 1985, so he wasn't remotely qualified while the Assassin still held the championship. Larry's only objective then was to regain his lost IBF title from Michael, in a rematch which took place in April 1986. At that moment in time, Tyson's only nationally televised appearance was against Jesse Ferguson. He was 19-0 by now, but still with relatively little competitive experience, and he'd only go the distance for the first time the following month against Tillis and Blood Green. Holmes walked away from boxing in disgust after Michael got awarded the decision in their rematch. Regardless of what Jimmy Jacobs said, the chronology wasn't supportive, and Larry's heart wouldn't have been in it at that point. He took on Mike in January 1988 because Don King showed up on his doorstep with Three Million Dollars to challenge Tyson. That kind of money may not have been available for the offering to Holmes in late 1986, when Mike had a lot more to gain than Holmes for such a pairing. For Tyson, getting to WBC Champion Berbick [in late November] makes a lot more sense. He was being rushed to break Patterson's record as the youngest HW Champion ever, and Larry wouldn't have been an aid towards achieving that goal after September 1985. Holmes is the guy I'd like to hear from concerning the allegation by Jacobs for arranging something in late 1986. It may simply have been idle promotional blather by Jimmy about a very remote possibility.
tyson had the number of holmes, tyson would ko 1986 holmes, 1988 holmes, 1978 holmes, 1980 holmes and 2040 holmes
Holmes would have lost in 1986. The 1980-82 Holmes would have outboxed Tyson and won a decision. Even in '88 Holmes somewhat frustrated Tyson when he began dancing. Holmes should never have fought Tyson in '88. Tyson was at the top of his game and Holmes was really not into boxing like he once was. It was a payday.
I threw you back. [Under the size limit. Damned fingerlings! Need to use a bigger hook and larger lures.] Heard Tyson's allergic to peanuts.
He was knocked out the moment he started dancing. Mike was built to beat Holmes and i think he beats any version of him.
It was a style thing between the 2, a younger Holmes may have made it to round 5-7 but the right hand connects.....Tyson had too much of a right hand and was a good finisher ...wrong style for Larry ...always
I did a thread on this, Lewis openly admitted he didnt want to face Larry, because Larry's jab was too good. Lewis' own words.
