Tommy thought Derry had gone and therefore lack of experience in those situations together with the level he has fought at before meant he left his chin out whilst looking for the stoppage. Simple as that, lesson learnt. He will be far more cautious in future before he goes for the finish
Yeah that punch he got hit with snapped his head back it must have been a monster. He was out for a few seconds and still managed to get to his feet a glass jaw would have been out cold.
Completely agree! The guy boxed Matthews ears off, sensed Matthews was ready to finish, so went for it. His tactics throughout the fight were spot on, he executed the game plan perfectly, but as Billy said, technical mistake meant a few times he was open for the left hook. Matthews caught him with it several times earlier on the way in. Doyle was excellent, as was Jamie Moore in his corner IMO.
You don't get paid anymore for putting on a show,I'm sure Tommy at this minute in time would rather have the win than the money. hopefully his time will come
You don't win fights by almost doing enough. I was bitterly disappointed for him as he was the much better fighter. He was absolutely superb, but to deny he made some big mistakes would be wrong. He'll come back and has the potential to be a very good fighter but he lost that fight rather than Derry winning it imo.
