That same mailman gave the #1 lb4lb fighter on the planet a tough fight. Thornton was 50/50 with Toney after six rounds, maybe even winning.

Eubank sweeped the first 4/5 rounds against Thornton very impressively and very nearly stopped him in the 9th (Thornton saved by the bell). Eubank physically turned his back and ran away for the last 2/3 rounds, knowing he had it sown up with the judges and that the best Thornton could get was a draw.

No version of Thornton would ever have beaten Roy.

Roy was ridiculed after fighting him.

Malinga was a good fighter. He gave Benn and Eubank hard fights.

We know what happened when Roy fought Toney and Sosa, and of course he didn't struggle to land. Give Roy some credit. He nailed him with a beautiful left hook at the end of the 2nd, a round where Thornton only landed 4 or 5 shots.

I agree that he wasn't hurt at the stoppage, but he wasn't firing back, and if the ref hadn't have intervened, how much longer would it have gone on for?

I'm willing to accept that Thornton wasn't at his best.

    But Roy never gets credit.

Eubank and Benn had tough fights with Malinga, then Roy stops him in 6, and it's a nothing win?

Do you think the Eubank version of Thornton would have beaten Roy?

Well, I've always believed that he should have fought Nunn.

But it's only an official duck, if he was completely bullshitting about fighting Douglas at HW. I don't think he vacated his belt, and pretended to want Buster Douglas, just to deliberately avoid Nunn. I think he would have fought Buster if Big Roy hadn't have intervened.

I don't think that Roy knew he'd probably lose. Nunn was a class act, but he was past his best at that point. We know Roy fought a pumped Tarver at nearly 35, after coming back from HW, so I find it hard to believe that Roy was scared of fighting a 37 year old Nunn, at 29. I'm obviously not saying that Tarver was better than Nunn, but again Nunn wasn't prime, and I would have said that fighting Tarver in Nov 2003 under the circumstances, was more dangerous than fighting Nunn in 1998.

Sosa was another BS stoppage. Eubank beat Malinga in 4th or 5th gear with his mind elsewhere

Malinga was saved by the bell against CE in the 5th and in a worse state than he was against RJ

Right, but Roy was ridiculed for fighting a mailman.

I understand that he wasn't peak, but would it have made any difference to the haters?

Thornton was respected against Toney and Eubank, but just a mailman when Roy beat him.

Malinga was respected when he fought Benn and Eubank, but when Roy fought him he wasn't that good.

Merqui Sosa was a respected guy who was unbelievably tough, yet when Roy beats him, it was a nothing win.

Roy dominates Gonzalez, and he's a Mexican road sweeper.

He toys with Woods, and then Woods is a nobody.

He destroys Griffin, and Griffin was a nobody.

He destroys Hill, then Hill is deemed shot to ****, even though he knocked Tiozzo out two years later in just a single round.

The list of examples is endless.

It's one rule for one, and another for Roy.

If Gonzalez was nothing but a road sweeper, how did he beat DM? Even if DM was past his best, surely he could have beaten a nobody.

These haters are a bunch of jokers!

Nobody at MW today, would have beaten the version of Roy who fought at MW.

Nobody at SMW today, would have beaten the version of Roy who fought at SMW.

Nobody at LHW today, would have beaten the version of Roy who fought at LHW, pre Ruiz.

Nobody at CW today, would have beaten the Ruiz version of Roy.

Yet Roy was overrated, and beat nothing but Cops etc?

So it was an easy win for Eubank?
