right now sergio is like a wh-ore.

he needs to make the most amount of money in the least amount of time as his 38-year-old body and fighting stylke will not handle more than two high profile fights.

    rubio,chavez, geale,barker...no money.

    its floyd or ggg.

depending how bad canelito looks on 9/14 alvarez can give the excuse that he can no longer make 154 and thats why he lost and make a fight with sergio.

hard to sell a fight with a guy coming off a loss but they did floyd/zab and i dont think it will be a problem with canelito unless he gets ko'd.

I've got the same perspective you do, Quincy. Sergio's got to make the most money in his next fight because I believe he will finish his career fighting GGG after that- his pride won't let him retire with people saying he ducked Golovkin.

He needs a tuneup and he needs it bad. A B level fighter. If DiBella knows whats right for his fighter then he wont be butting Sergio in there with a top 10 fighter.

leonard took three years off and fought hagler.

floyd took almost two years off before fighting jmm.

both guys had pretty much no record of signifignat injuries that required surgery(sans leonards retina).

the chances of sergio taking a "tune-up" is close to zero and possibly less than zero if that number existed.

sergio might not make it through a full trianing camp without getting injured let alone a twelve-round "tune-up" championship fight.

guys going to be 39 in his next fight, not 29.

he gets injured in a "tune-up" and then he comes back at 40?

    think, man.

Leaonard and Mayweather did not suffer injuries like Sergio just recently did.
And lets not forget that Martinez is 38. Floyd and Leonard were in their early 30s.

    thats what im saying.

sergio does not have time for a tune-up as he risks re-injuring his knee again, the same knee that was injured in his last two fights and both times required surgery.

    hes not taking a tune-up.

hes going after floyd or ggg.

    hes going after the money.

I think Martinez is going to look to fight Cotto when he comes back. I think thats why Cotto is back on HBO.

Cotto probably sees Martinez as past his best(which he is) and this is a chance for him to win a title at 160, as well as being a big money fight.

I wouldn't want to call Cotto a tune-up but I think Cotto is semi-easy work for Martinez. This gives Martinez some rounds in, as well as a big payday, before he looks to fight Golovkin.

A 'tune up' fight against Canelo @ a catch weight or @ 160 then fight 3G.

A 'tune up' with the winner of Geale-Barker fight then fight 3G.

A 'tune-up' rematch with JCC then fight 3G.

    A 'tune-up' with Quillin then fight 3G.

I think Sergio can beat the winner of Geale - Barker fight and then have a fight with 3G ( in this fight Sergio could lose badly ).

JCC - I'm not sure if he will be able to make 160.
Quillin - At this stage Quillin beats Sergio.
Canelo - Canelo @ 160 beats Sergio too.

Cotto's a good money fight option too for Sergio. Less risky than a fight with Canelo, knowing that Cotto is old and past of his prime too.

Man I hope you guys are right on Sergio Taking on GGG. GGG would finish and expose is awkward wobbly leg style but Sergio wont give up easy. Very entertaining fight

DiBella has already said that there's no chance of him fighting GGG coming off this injury, so he will be taking an easier fight first. Whether that means a no-hoper or a good, solid fighter like Rubio, who knows?

For what it's worth, I'd go with the latter option. If he could get Rubio, that would be ideal.

It sounds like Sergio may fight the winner of the WBC tournament (Rubio/Chavez, Ramirez/Spada - but with Chavez dropping out), and then face off with GGG in Sept. 2014. Sergio will make good money for a tuneup.

And if he fought Murray again, he'd KO him. Martinez took Martin lightly, had to deal with some injuries and still finished the stronger fighter. He had Murray hurt pretty good at the end of the fight. For that matter, Sturm had Murray hurt pretty well too at the end of theirs.
