Here's something nobody ever mentions regarding this: You can smoke heroin. If Liston was A: terrified of needles and B: addicted to heroin why inject?

i reckon her was murdered, probably in his sleep. Then, they stuck the needles in his back to make it look like a drug overdose.

Liston seemed a quiet guy, didnt look like the drugs/party type.

He probably outlived his usefullness with the mob, knew too much, so was got rid of.

If hed lived longer, i reckon he would have cleaned up his act, broke all past ties and become more of a lovable type character the way Foreman and Tyson have transformed

They didn't specifically find heroin in Liston, they found evidence of opiates.
Liston had been in the hospital a week or two before his death and was given morphine. That could account for it.
The investigation was a sham. They had no idea how he died and called it a heroin overdose to close the case.

People who smoke it eventualy get to the point where they cant get the high they want, and then they often turn to injecting it.

People who knew Liston say he was a kind and generous person with a great sense of humor.
He came across as quiet and brooding because he was shy in public.
He was an ass when he was drunk.

Liston knew he was owned, he understood that life. I dont think he upset the mob. They most likely covered up for him. Liston lived in that world. He was not some green horn out of his depth, Liston knew how it worked. He could keep a secret. women and drinking were supposedly Sonnys weakness but nobody knows for sure. Why couldnt his death have been plain old missadventure? maybe he had a few girls round, over indulged and just passed out? Or maynbe he was a michael hutchence and the cover up caused more suspicion than had the truth gotten out. Sportsmen can die young.

One of the rumors is that he was supposed to throw the wepner fight but didnt go through with it.

My bet is he was murdered by the mob.

    Noob,

Shooting is more economical.........H is expemsive.

The high is the same smoke, shoot or snore .

Why some of you guys cannot understand that he was a alkie and heavy dope user is beyond me. He lived the fast live and died the fast live, as a matter of fact that is the way he wanted it. All this tough guy nonsense about Liston is BS.

He never ever tamed his inner demons and in a sense he quit in the two Clay fights and ultimately quit on live. He ain't the first or last one.

Nobody give me the "Athlete" " tough as nails" "trained harder than ever" nonsense, check out Johnny Tapia, while not a quitter, even in the fights he lost his rampant drug abuse did not matter much and he was high in training camp right up to the fights.....it is all in the head but eventually the body says F it and that is that.

There isn't a shred of evidence that Liston ever used drugs.
The people who knew him are unanimous in saying he didn't.
    He drank but no drugs.

You mean apart from the autopsy and toxicology reports? And needle marks? And the marijauna found by police in his pocket and heroin found in a balloon in the kitchen?

You can choose to believe what you want about how all of these things came to be found at death scene, but you cannot say there is no evidence that he used drugs. All of these things are documented and they are evidence that he used drugs.

A man died of arsenic poisoning. Arsenic was found in his house in the form of rat poison.
Under your logic, this is evidence that the man "used" arsenic.
This actually happened in my city not long ago and the wife was convicted of murder- I'm glad you weren't on the jury.
