Hagler vs Hopkins both in prime at 160 who wins?

Close fight, probably give it to Hagler on aggression.

 

In a best of three fight series between these two P.F.P. Middleweight greats I believe Marvelous Marvin Hagler takes it, two out of three, against "The Executioner" Bernard Hopkins in what would actually turn out to be a very good if not great trilogy between them.

I definitely have to say Hagler over Hopkins, at 2-1, in a best of three because I honestly don't think that either one of them would get swept in a best of three fight series with the great Sugar Ray Robinson, with both Hagler and B-Hop taking one fight each against the all around P.F.P. great SRR!

 

Hagler. By either TKO or UD.

 

I kind of like Hopkins here to ugly it up and edge a close decision.

We tend to rate Ex a little higher based on his amazing run after he was middleweight king. Not to say that he isn`t up there with the ATG`s at middle. But, I think MMH would be a little too much everything for Hopkins. Hagler 12 or 15 rd UD. Before anyone starts saying how good Hopkins does with southpaws,Hagler most certainly was nnot your ordinary southpaw. He`d use that southpaw jab, walk Hopkins down, and flat out outwork him inside. He had that rock-solid chin so Hop would not be able to get his respect. Good fight with two world class champions, but Hagler `s.

 

I see very few Middleweights stopping Hopkins, and Hagler certainly wouldn't be one of them.

As for the actual topic, I don't know who wins this one.

 

Well no **** you don't know who wins this one. It will never happen anyway. How would you know if Hagler couldn't "stop" Hopkins? He was a knockout artist and an accurate puncher with a vicious jab.

 

A guaranteed distance fight. Marvin's agression wins it for him.

I obviously meant that I could not predict the winner myself if this hypothetical fight took place outside of time. Jeez.

If you want to be semantically precise, I cannot be absolutely "sure," as there is no way to validate or verify my suspicion.

But Hopkins has a very good chin, and he's never come close to being stopped. Of course, you can argue that Hagler is more dangerous than anyone Hopkins has fought, but Hagler's KO ratio is a bit misleading, as he tended to knock you out with an accumulation of punches rather than one-shot bombs. And I don't think Hagler could land as many power shots on Hopkins as he did on, say, Mugabi (who may not have had a better chin than Hopkins but certainly worse defense). And I don't see how relevant Hagler's "vicious jab" is here. Besides, when I think of the best jabbers from the era or around his weight, I don't think of Hagler.

Finally, Hopkins potentially has a style that could really stymie Hagler. Hagler was best when people came at him, as he was a counter-puncher by inclination. Look at what Duran--way past prime and way over his natural weight--did to Hagler with a cautious, counter-punching game plan. I don't think it is far-fetched to believe that Hopkins can execute that game plan better.

 

I think both are tremendous. I'd pick Hopkins because I think he would be able to throw Hagler off of his game with his style and his antics.
