This kid is raw, and in decent shape. And he can take a shot too. Front page has him listed as fighting JL Smith 13-0 next w/e, March 2. Gonna be his 5th fight vs undefeated opposition, albeit limited. http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=601643&cat=boxer 6'7 260lbs. He fights vs 13-0 Alexis Santos on 6-5-14 on Fox 1 on a GBP card. War Big Mountain Edit: So Highly touted MA banger Aliexis Santos was highly favored in this fight. IB made a rd by rd and gives a solid account of the action, but I'll surmise...... Early in the 1st, Martz was using the jab and the 1-2 and the hook down stairs. Threw the 1st 4-5 shots. Santos then lunged and landed a crisp and aweshocking L hook. The home crowd cheered. Daniel took it like a brick wall, put his gaurd up and went back to work. After pinning Santos against the ropes and banging away(hitting mostly gaurd, but landing some thudding body shots, they traded back and forth. Near the 1:00 mark of end of rd 1, Santos lunged in and met the Big Mountain in a clash that sent the 6'1 225 lb ball of muscle reeling down to the canvas. He has twisted his ankle against the immovable object that is Martz, though Martz did brush a short CLH off Santos shoulder as he came in. After that, he made a move that would make Jordan, Lebron, Wade, and Kobe smack across the mouth. He pulled a Solis, a Hamer....a complete quittage, while still able to throw high torque Ls and Rs off his sometimes broken ankle and his sometimes, perfectly servicable ankle. MArtz proceeded to give him the Wilder treatment swinging wildly and trying to land a bomb, but mostly smothered his own work and soley relied on body shots to hurt the smaller Santos. Santos made it thru 2 more rds in which Martz pushed him and battered him to the body, smothering his work upstairs. KO3 I think was the official....but it should be RTD4. thumbsup:thumbsup
Improved to 8-1-1 last night with a solid win over journeyman Rubin Williams. Some of y'all don't know this kid, but he's 6'8 in good shape, and can take a punch. He has already made tough fights vs fellow undefeated prospects. Yeah, he's take a draw and an L, but he aint been beat thoroughly, and as a SHW, he could be the US answer to Hughie Fury. Love to see thse two kids go at it. Im sure Big Mountain Daniel Martz would savor the idea.
Kids fighting tonight on the ESPN card. Will make the show if time doesnt run short. Here's hoping Teddy isnt long winded and Bernard Osuna remembers he's not on deportes and doesnt roll his rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr's so long.
any footage of the kid? Its troubling he wasn't able to get rid of a former supermiddleweight in Rubin Williams but hey, he may be entertaining and learning on the job
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AbpeVFqH3Y Takes a big shot and keeps throwing hands. Real tough kid, and yeah, learnign on the job. Will be an exciting fighter no matter how far he goes in the division.:good
He really needs to learn to pump that jab, he has no business being on the inside against these guys with that type of height advantage. He smothers alot of his own work. He appears to be in decent shape though. if he's only 22, he has alot of time to work on things. I wouldnt mind seeing him tonight
Yeah, he's definitely a work in progress, but we aint gonna see him tonight. Shows over and he's still not fought. Hopefully someone from MainEvents or another decent promoter will be there and look to sign him. If he can get with the right trainer, that chin, that jab and his size could very well take him places. Here's hoping for a solid local kid to do big things.:good
So Martz did not get his tv time......but he did convincingly beat 7-1 fellow big man Jonathan Hamm. Scores were 59-55 58-56 and 57-57. Let's see if a fight with Mike Sheppard is gonna happen. That'd be a hard fight for him seeing as Mike is somewhat a mentor for the young Mountain. However, it's definitely a measuring stick, and it might make a team like Main Events take notice.:think
I'm from West Virginia, and actually watched him win his first toughman here. I've boxed for years and not easy to impress, but I gotta say I was thoroughly impressed with the kid. Even though it was toughman and he was only 18, he was big, tough, had skill, threw good combinations, etc. I knew he had a couple of pro fights, but very cool he's doing well enough to get some attention outside of WV.
Im hoping he gets that tv date so a bigtime promoter can grab him up. Get him a strength and conditioning coach and work on his defense. His defense is his shakiest point, but his chin is more than adequate to make up for it at the lower levels. However, he needs to sit down on his shots more and really drive his opponents back with them. A good team around him could really do wonders for this kid. :deal
too bad we didn't get to see, I was on the lookout for him. Good that he got the win though. where does he train? Out of WV or did he transplant somewhere else.
