Why would you think that, he was fighting the young guns at SMW when in the later parts of his career

 

He was generally considered the best after his destruction of Toney.. After he moved up to LHW and collected all the major belts he would be a three weight champion, a deeper resume and a bigger name in the boxing world than DM. A man he beat at MW was now a reigning world champ there as well.

I would have loved to see Joe move up a little earlier and mix it up with the likes of Jones, DM or even Tarver.

But unifying at 168 was a great thing as well.

Any claim DM had to being the man was dismissed when he lost to Gonzalez.. And Roy claimed that by dropping from HW and beating the #1 man in Tarver, keep in mind Roy kept the LHW ring belt the whole time.. Calzaghe would later raise this belt with his defeat of Hopkins.

I credit Roy as the man when he unified for reasons above, but you have to admit, he was certainly the man when he beat Tarver.

It was said in a frustrated tone, because nothing had happened.

He had NO real intentions of going to Germany.
